Yikes! That's some scary stuff!
In 2018 I was riding back to my campsite in a NJ campground when a young cub walked across my path about 15’ in front of me. Mom was nowhere to be seen. Now that was scary. |
I'm sure at least some of you have seen this:

Holy crap, that ostrich can haul! Also, I never would have thought that it would have the stamina or inclination to run that far!

Yeah, I just read that they can reach 70 km a hour, so I assume that he either only wanted to scare them off, or was having fun, because if he wanted, he could have easily caught them and kicked all their asses, including the witnesses on the dune to the right.

Well, this thread is now on its merry way!

I had a deer jump out of a marshy area and across the rail-trail right in front of me. Had I been there one second earlier I'd have been hit broadside by it. The rail-trail was extremely narrow at that point and pretty well overgrown. Again, it was at dusk. I've seen many deer on the trail or just off it grazing and I keep a close eye open for them. However when they're in t all grass or other tall growth and are spooked, it can be like they just appeared out of a wormhole and you're very lucky if you miss hitting them or they miss hitting you. It's also quite surprising at how quickly they can move down a steep slope like a railway embankment.
