Event reimbursement

Back in January/February I signed up for several local events during the first half of 2020 -- the fun charity events and Fondos that make for interesting rides. All well before the ongoing tragedy that is Coronavirus and COVID-19. Because of my professional obligations I opted for the "Registration Protection Policy' offers from Allianz - Global Assistance. To date Allianz has not honored one, not one! ...request for reimbursement. They are quick to say they "generally do not cover COVID-19 losses." I'd be very curious to know if they have partook in any of the US Government handouts offered by the Treasury.

How many other members of this forum have had issues with Allianz or any other reimbursement scheme?

That seems awfully specific for a policy that contains the word generally.

If you paid with a credit card you can just dispute the charge with your credit card bank. You didn’t receive the product for which you paid.

Lesson #1 . Don't buy the insurance

What are the event organizers doing? It's probable that the insurance isn't paying out because the organizers will be offering deferment or refunds themselves

I had an event cancelled back in March, that's what I ran into

Registration protection insurance covers you if you can't make it to the event (for a variety of reasons). It is not insurance guarding against cancellation of the event.

I haven't had an issue with the 2 events that I chose insurance for. This is because the event organizers canceled the events and refunded the entry fees.

You should be asking why the event organizers haven't refunded the entry costs.

April 3, Time Your Race offered full refunds for the Foresthill Fondo, with the option to leave behind any portion for FATRAC (the beneficiary). Given how things were going I forgive myself for ignoring this email.

April 23, I got a follow up. It contained the prior info and the note,

If, by April 30th, I have not received a response to this email, I will take is as an unwritten confirmation to be issued a full refund amount.
I chose to donate and got a nice note back from the organizer.

While the OP hasn’t given any policy details, I’ll bet you are correct.

The reason it wouldn't be cancelled is because you'd get a refund (typically) for a cancelled event.

???

It's likely you would get a refund.

If so, you wouldn't be incurring any loses.
