Is a roadster a thing?

I was recently running through some episodes of The GCN Show and one of the more recent ones they were talking about the EF Pro x Palace Cannondales that EF Pro are riding, and they mentioned the mechanic got one as well. They showed a picture of a virtually identical bike but with what looked to be MTB flat bars on it and it sounded like they referred to it as a roadster. Is that a thing or did I mishear?

No idea, but putting flat bars on a road racing bike sounds very hipster, so probably.

"Roadster" is a nice name for a new marketing-class of bike.

I think it's a regional thing, but I've heard it, too. "Roadster" seems to be applied to what are now unimaginatively called 'flat-bar road bikes'

Sporty, bars lower than the saddle, skinny-tire road bike running gear. Basically a road bike with everything but the drops.

Ha. Bars also must be also be super narrow, or super wide. I forget which one is trendy at the moment.

Maybe Roadster is an English term? Much like bonnet, or lorry, or bobbie....

wide, some people are running like 770mm flats. The risers on my Leader are more like 600-620ish. So y’know... conservative.

Interesting. My (cheap, old) road frame uses Sunlite Elson Roadster handlebars. You’d think that would perhaps make it a “roadster”, but the bars are swept back, not straight, and of middling (54 cm) width, so I guess it doesn’t meet the current “roadster” label. Oh, dear.

During the past few decades, traditionally styled roadster bicycles have regained popularity in the Western world, particularly as a lifestyle or fashion statement in an urban environment.
Of course.

Is my bike a roadster? Flat bars, road drivetrain, 28mm tires, seat higher than stem . . ..

Getting giddy that I may be hip!

I have a similar bike, sans front derailleur. It was sold as a "flat bar road bike," an "endurance" bike, and an "urban" bike, to name a few.

It's a hybrid.

That's the Roadster I know.

I'm pretty sure the euro brands still make traditionally styled and modernized versions. Something like the Gazelle below, and Pashley's.
