Yeah, I know, no lock is perfect, layered security, honest man honest, but why pay $149 for something that has the same security level as GlennR's cheap and light cable lock?
I don’t know that I make much of your claims and assessments, but the TiGr is certified by ART with the same rating as locks like the Abus Granit Bordo 6500, so there is no doubt it provides more security than the luggage lock posted by GlennR.

As for why pay more for more security, well that seems obvious to most of us, I’m sure, but as for other reasons to do so, I’ll refer you back upthread 5 posts where I detailed those reasons.

The internet is full of videos showing how poorly that lock performs. 14:15 for the hacksaw (20 seconds) and 16:15 for the under 1 second bolt cutters

Terrible lock

Terrible lock
Again, your question was why use a TiGr rather than the luggage lock which I answered: because it’s more secure. The luggage lock can be cut with tiny, pants pocket friendly sidecutters, whereas the TiGr requires 2 foot long bolt cutters.

If you’re concerned about some cat vic’ing your bike with 2’ boltcutters on your mid-ride stop, I pity you for where you live, but more importantly, suggest you get something more substantial than a retractable luggage cable lock.

Bike thieves don't carry small diagonal cutters, they carry things like nail guns, bolt cutters, angle grinders. In all honesty the small cable lock will better withstand a bolt cutter than your tigger lock will.

This isn't anything personal, I'm just making information available. I understand you bought an expensive lock and want to think it is secure. Now that you have it might as well keep using it. Just stop suggesting it to others, there are better solutions for the money.

That’s ridiculous. You’re obviously having a malfunction of some kind.

In the context of the OP, which is that of a quick stop for a snack or bathroom break, I don't think that there's a meaningful difference in security between a "gentlemen's lock" and something more robust.

The biggest factor is going to be time, which affects both opportunity and preparedness. I often keep my bike where it's visible from the inside, or at least where any activity near it would be visible (windows are often higher than my bars/saddle), but even if we didn't factor in sightlines, we're still talking about being away from the bike for 2 or 3 minutes. That means that someone needs to be there, have appropriate tools on hand (how many people regularly carry heavy tin snips or wire cutters, let alone big ka-chunker bolt cutters or a grinder?), make the snap decision to act in a vile manner, and have the means to spirit away the bike. Yeah, IT COULD HAPPEN!!! But sorry, that reads a little too much like some home invasion fantasy of a Rambo wannabe.

Meanwhile, a gentlemen's lock is much more convenient to tote around. If someone finds comfort in lugging around something more cumbersome, knock yourself out, but you're probably no better off, so don't leave your bike unattended too long.

Ottolock. Keeps honest people honest, and good enough for short stops. Nice and light, too.

My wife and I carry locks when we KNOW that our plans include leaving our bikes and walking around somewhere. A combination of a Python cable lock, a U-lock, and another cable with padlock. No one of these is very strong, but the combination would take more visible effort to cut. We place the bikes in public racks, normally, among other bikes. Maybe ours won't be the target.

On a ride by myself, then, no. I don't take a lock. If the bike can't come in with me someplace, I won't enter.

Just bought a Kryptonite U lock. I cant afford to have my bike or trike stolen. And yes I know a professional bike thief can cut thru any anti theft device, but I will never be away from the bike long enough for them to do that. Mainly just ducking into a restroom or a quick shop.
