i remember one of the few times in my life that I have ever golfed a swarm of locusts was in and around the course. The cups on the greens would have them in there and it was freaky to take your ball out with them in there. I'm not much of a locust person and would probably starve to death before I would eat one.

Fellow Baby Boomers and music fans of that era will instantly recall DYLAN's "Day of The Locusts" from the 1970 New Morning album.

It is a simple song to learn as just Capo the 1st Fret and it is super simple easy chords which remain in the same exact order repeating throughout the song.

These two links below will give you the backstory on the song and how it came to be when the Cicadas were singin' for Zimmy and his then wife Sara and his outspoken pal named David that was once in a group on the same Columbia label as Dylan but at that time (1970) was in the biggest group on the Atlantic label.

For those who are not music members and can't hear that try this site instead:

That had to be one of the worst songs Dylan ever created! it's a train wreck...in my opinion anyway. Don't get me wrong I like some of Dylan's stuff but some of it wasn't very good either, and this song is an example of his bad stuff.

Haven't heard any cicadas, yet, this year. But then, where I'm living isn't in the expected "heart" of the zone for the big "Brood X" emergence.

Looks like this year's going to see Brood X's kiddos in Indiana, western Ohio, eastern/southern Pennsylvania, Maryland, Rhode Island, and eastern Tennessee.

They won’t bother me

I have Tinitus and I have a buzzing sound in my ears that sounds just like them. 24/7 365. It sucks.

Our cats would eat them when I was a kid. They would cough up the wings later. Unfortunately the cats wanted to bring the live cicadas into the house to play with. Mom put a stop to that.

They coat your tires, your chain and jump all over you as you go down the road. Nasty, slippery and swishy.

I've never ever even remotely experienced that while riding my bike down a road, maybe had I gone off road on some trail? but not on the road. If that is happening to you the next time take some pics of this gooey mess on the road and your bike, that would be fun to see.

We're right in the yellow zone for 2021. The last brood X was a blast mountain biking. Could get very loud in the woods, crunching over lots of dead shells and getting hit by a few each ride. We also have a 14 year brood that is also quite rambunctious.
