Nay, sir, it is @JAG1 who hath been waxing wroth .... I have been waxing right ... and calmly .... for several years.
Issues I might have, but wax I also have, and in plenty ... and 6 micron PTFE powder to boot.

I swear a little knowledge, true or false is dangerous. Any of you ever hear of a not so modern convenience, candles? Birthday cakes? Romantic moments? In all these cases you are releasing more molten paraffin than waxing your chain. Wear gloves and a carbon absorbing mask if you are that concerned, but let’s all stop being so stupid.

The person who can answer that question regarding how much is too much would be a multimillionaire. Also, what is too much for one is not too much for many others.

Wet lube for me!
"Consumer products contain benzene at known concentrations such as gasoline at less than 4.9%. Many contain benzene at unknown concentrations. Product manufacturers are not required to list chemicals on the Safety Data Sheet if the chemical concentration is less than of 0.1% by weight, per the Hazard Communication Standard. Many products are a mixture of hydrocarbon chemicals such as naphtha, Stoddard solvent, xylene, toluene, ethylbenzene, petroleum distillates (naphtha), aromatic petroleum distillate, distillates (petroleum), solvent-refined light paraffinic and aromatic hydrocarbons. The amount of benzene in each mixture can vary from 300 to greater than 10,000 parts per million (ppm). Experiments have demonstrated products containing 552 ppm of benzene can result in airborne concentrations greater than 5 ppm as averaged over a sampling period of 15 minutes, above the threshold described by Cal/OSHA regulation 10."

I just went through the posts quickly so maybe this has been brought up.
Does anyone know which is more unhealthy; lubing your chain, or riding a few hours sucking up exhaust fumes?

On the other hand, the solvents used for chain lubrication (assuming a liquid lubricant) are usually low odor mineral spirits. “Low odor mineral spirits” also have low benzene content, so the amount of benzene you’d be exposed to is fairly low. You are most likely to be exposed to benzene when fueling your car with higher exposures isn’t the summer.
Additionally, benzene is a commodity chemical. It has a lot of value and refiners are careful to capture as much as possible because they can sell it for filthy lucre. So they don’t too much of it going out the door in something else. Some does but, generally, they want to keep it.

Equally bad. Sources are saying that Zwift will soon begin virtual chain waxing sessions.

Probably lubing a chain. “Exhaust fumes” really aren’t a thing anymore. Catalytic converters remove unburned hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. I had a discussion with a fellow chemist who is a motörhead (I’m not) about cars in closed garages. Even if you start with a full tank, you can’t really off yourself with car exhaust anymore.
On the other hand, the solvents used for chain lubrication (assuming a liquid lubricant) are usually low odor mineral spirits. “Low odor mineral spirits” also have low benzene content, so the amount of benzene you’d be exposed to is fairly low. And testicular cancer is a proven way to improve your riding, even to win the TDF. At least temporarily.
