Empire State Trail
Today, Sunday, November 7, on pp 33-35 of the New York Times' Sports section there are two articles about the Empire State Trail. East to West, is the Erie Canal Towpath which has been documented pretty well here and on CGOAB, but the South to North, Battery Park to Canada, is less well known. The articles are narratives and give a nice flavor of the trails, and include some good sounding places to eat. Yes, I know they are tours, but many people use them recreationally with no intention of end to ending. The descriptions of the N-S trail are particularly good since it is stitched together from many shorter trails. In any case, it is nice to see a couple of positive articles in a mainstream publication and one may even find some new information in them.

Back in June, a woman posted a journal of her ride from Brooklyn to Albany on the trails that make up that part of the Empire State trail, then she took the Erie Canal trail west from there.
Her journal is here.
