I f—-ed up and propped my Domane on a rusty post and it scratched my top rail as it slid to the ground. Although the damage is cosmetic I would like to repair and restore the finish. Does anyone have experience fixing minor scratches on trek carbon bikes or can recommend a legit paint shop to do the repair.

I would look for a good paint shop but the trouble will be matching the paint. A good body shop should be able to fill and blend to make it look good but may be reluctant to take on the job. You might see if Trek can help you out.

Car paint shops usually won't take the job and if they did they would be a terrible job of it. A good bike paint shop like Cycle Art charts so much it would frighten you unless you're very highly paid. So this is something you might want to do for yourself. Good paint stores can match the paint in spray cans and use ONLY very fine sandpaper. This can take forever if you dug any trenches in the top tube. If so you can get carbon filler from plastic stores as a rule.

Might be easier to just make up a good story about how you got the ding.

Hmmm......where I live the best painter for bikes is a car shop. Just had the redo a lot of the blue on this frame last year due to a lot of damage and the repairs, matching, and blending are flawless.



That said, this is the first time I've paid for this and I had a reason. Most times I'll live with the scratch or repair it myself. It's a bike and like the others said above. Battle scars are badges of honor.
