We agree that it's luck, then.

That's true until it isn't. I went approximately 40 years between dog attacks. It proves absolutely nothing. Just because you know someone who eats tarantulas, drinks, and wears stripes (?) who got attacked while walking doesn't mean any of those things have anything to do with anything.

It's good that you backed down from your incredibly stupid "don't wear black and yellow because you look like a bee" thing, but the stripe thing and the "don't eat predators" thing continue to be nonsense advice, albeit probably harmless.

Didn't you tell someone that wearing a yellow top and black pants was bad because it made him look like a bee? He wasn't wearing stripes. Get your silly story straight.

Ok, it's not a dog but it is a big water monitor lizard. I was riding my bike at this park in eastern Bangkok and came across him. It's worse when they are on the bike path like in the pic below. Once I was riding in a paceline near here (Rama IX Park) and one came out on to the track. Brakes were applied pretty d@mn fast to come to a stop. Luckily no one crashed. Would have loved to have seen a video of it!

You are so lucky you weren’t taken down and severely mauled by Scruffy. That monster looks vicious and obviously wanted to eliminate you from the gene pool.

It was windy with intermittent high wind gusts so I think that perhaps Scruffy could not fight through the wind to launch it's vicious attack.. Lucky me as I am sure I would have been mauled otherwise..

I’ve had the same issue and being friendly usually works.

That's one of those events that's really funny in hindsight, but when they sneak out at me like that from a 90 degree angle, I'm so horrified at the possibility of running the little SOB over that it really does get the adrenaline pumped up. I've actually just stopped and hopped off the bike to yell at them so they get conditioned not to do it, they really do just run away from you. Their stupid little heads hadn't really anticipated the question of "I caught you, now what?"

The penultimate paragraph looks like a random word salad. Did you use text-to-speech-after-Halt!-inhalation?
Carried this for years and sprayed many dogs. Just slow down when spraying. Also dont spray it if a fellow cyclist is behind you.

This holds a can of bear spray and fits in a bottle cage. Handy way to carry bear spray.
