Bicycle Acquisition Syndrome.

My Kirk isn't even painted yet and I'm already giving thought to a Thomassini (Techo) build . . . oye!

In the guitar world, many are afflicted with Guitar Acquisition Syndrome or GAS. How many are enough? Just one more . . .

Just as one can play only one guitar at a time, so it is with riding bikes. Nonetheless, enjoying the work of multiple builders is appealing.

N+1 is the general scientific formula. Luckily now I am in declutter mode and want to get rid of stuff and acquire some new stuff but not get up to the same level as I once was. If I had the space, money and time I probably would build more stuff out but I realize now what I really want and like and want to focus mostly on that stuff but keep it to bikes I am going to ride more or at least have ridden a lot.

N+1 is a particular issue for C&V multiple threads over there if you are interested

If they bring you joy, you ride them, have space to store out of the elements, and are not impinging on any of your other responsibilities, don't stress and just enjoy (also to note everyone in the C&V forum is an enabler )

Storage space is all that would have kept me back, I love C&V, I have 16, and 6 for the kids when they visit. While I did sell one last year I bought two titaniums and for bad arthritis days I bought 2 recumbent trikes a tourer and also a folder because we are snow birds and I can haul the folder, my shop is too big. I am going to try and sell one this year and start a annual event:

Too many bicycles? What a bizarre concept!

A guy at work has GAS real bad. He eats, sleeps, and dreams in guitar. At one time I had it, too, but am now more realistic and no longer lust after the next one of anything. Well, except a coral pink Strat.

I must be right behind you. Joe said he thought he could finish mine by March 1. I figure a week back to Bozeman for final assembly and a week to receive it. By this time next month, I hope to be riding it.

Never had it. One for each application. E.g., one road ride bike, one touring bike, etc.

Same. One road (ride) bike, one mtb, in my case.

I don't subscribe to the N+1 thing.

We recently moved to a new part of the country for my wife's new job -- which roughly doubled our household income, even though I retired fully at that point. She told me to buy a new bike, no price limit...But for the best type of riding in this area, I already had a great bike. So I didn't buy a new one.

As conspicuous consumption items, bikes are great since you can easily show them off to strangers. But I'd rather have a larger retirement plan than spend money on a bike I'll only ride occasionally. And the more bikes you have, the less frequently you'll ride each one.

My norm for quite a while has been 2 single bikes - gotta have a backup bike - plus 1 tandem shared with spouse. Have had brief periods of owning 3 single bikes. And owned 2 tandems for a short time.
Guitars? I have 2. Have never owned more than 3 and there were times of 1 guitar in my past.

I've come to my senses . . . the chrome stays on the Tomasino are real eye candy but I realize they'd require frequent cleaning to look good. Incompatible with my "ease of operation" approach to retirement. Plus, cache factor aside, what would a Tomassini do that my incoming Kirk can't? The piggybank sighs with relief!
