No tire needed

Just seen in the Fort Lauderdale area. At least no concern for rear flats. But zoom in and look at the rear brake calipers. It appears as though they’re nowhere close to rim, nor could even be adjusted for it. Is the wheel the wrong size? — Dan

Well technically, you only need a brake on one wheel if you're not riding fast. I've seen plenty of bikes in the city with only a front brake.

Prior to the mass industrial adoption of rubber products, tires were generally iron or steel.

We get customers like that often at the co-op. We offer previously-loved tires for $5 and patched tubes for $2 which can be earned through work trade. But the work trade often ends up including a new wheel, as it doesn't take long at all to destroy a rim riding on it without a tire. Some clients insist on reusing the damaged rim, and we'll work with them later after the rim just doesn't hold a tire or air anymore due to bead or sidewall damage.

Bikes: I have 3 singlespeed/fixed gear bikes

If you can't afford tires, just glue a garden hose to your rim and you get yourself a tubular and never have to worry about flats.

If I saw her riding, I'd probably stop and offer her one of my used tires.

That is really unfortunate to see- and I am not referring to a wheel being damaged.

Probably should buy a wider rim for a smoother ride. <grin, sarcasm>

Since the tire pressure can't be lowered maybe spoke tension could be reduced! <more sarcasm>

No comments for the person on the bike since I don't know any of the reasons. Perhaps they had a good one.

Costs? Heck, garden hose, copper pipe, catalytic converters and bikes are free for the taking.

I have some acquaintances who have a pair of mentally slow twins. Adults now, but they have told a story that when they were young, they'd ride bikes with flat (or missing) tires. So, when a new caretaker came, the first thing he tried was to fix the flats. But, then the bikes were too fast, and they both crashed. So, they let out the air and let the kids have fun.

I'm guessing. The bike is 26", she stumbled upon 28" wheels and mounted them. The rear tire would not fit, so simple solution? Remove rear tire.
Rear brakes are not a concern. Try braking with a rim
