While you're at it... please enlighten me as to this magic called "Northvale" that renders covert customer non-service operations reachable in only 12 seconds - albeit at my expense. :rolleyes: Then tell me why I should have too...

To answer your specific question... I'm trying to determine the proper replacement seatpost size for a '00 Dakar Sport LE. I ordered a 28.6 Thomson that does not fit despite the fact that my digital calipers indicate it to be the closest option. Jamis dealers in the Southwest are scarcer than hen's-teeth and I seriously doubt they're going to give me the time of day -- by phone -- for a bike this old.. that I didn't buy from them.. for a seatpost sale that they will not make.

With all respect... I won't lighten up. When I drop $800 on product, I expect more.

Sure, i'll do that in one word "COLNAGO", their information is impossible to get, yet people still love them. Companies want questions referred through their dealers. A seat post question doesn't need a corporate response. What is your city and zip code and we'll give you dealers near you who sell Jamis.

Consider this; What happens when/if you are not satisfied with a warranty claim on the jamis product that you purchased. After you've exhausted your options with the lbs, you are basically s.o.l. as you will have fun trying to contact Jamis.

I'm sure they are great bikes but there are a lot of great bikes from manufacturers that are maybe a little more consumer friendly.

From now on call 1-800-555-1212 for any toll free number of any company you want. Works anywhere you are in the US

Plenty on companies don't need trivial questions like seat posts, that is why there is a network of dealers.

Dealer search from the front page of the Jamis site.

Every manufacturer should have a contact us link with a phone number and email contact. If they don't have time for me I guess I don't have time for them either.......

Don't you think its time consuming for companies to answer small questions all day long like a seat post size when the local dealer can answer the same question, and since thats where the replacement part is sold? Any LBS can tell the seat post size if the OP brings his in. The OP is just venting, he doesn't tell us any info such as model and year for us to help at all. He is just venting an opinion to disparage a brand because he doesn't agree that all the makers do the same thing. My local dealer will answer any Airborne question I have even though they didn't sell me the bike.

I had a Jamis once that due to an accident, I bent the fork. I got help from a store that didn't sell Jamis, it was a sporting goods store actually. In fact that store even ordered a new Jamis fork for me, installed it and everything.

I guess you won't own a Trek, Colnago, and countless other brands. Many don't have email/contact info online. They feel thats what the dealer network is for. They spend years getting this network up to help you.

For people unsavy with the internet who still demand an email, there is countless sites that generally have the same account setups.

sales@$%^&&.com
support@$%^&&.com
webmaster@$%^&&.com

and so on. You can usually figure out how to email them through trial and error.

- interesting comments here...

- i had a quick question regarding a seatpost size for a Marin bike... (size changed between 2004/5 model years for one particular line)... emailed Marin via its Web mail address and i got an answer w/in 24 hours - good service!

Buy another Marin if you like their aspect of help. I have an Airborne and when I ask Flyte a questioin, they answer. Smaller companies it is easier. Also since Airborne/Flyte is online ordering, that is part of their specific sales plan.

I am 50/50 from Trek. I guessed their email correct and the first time got an almost form letter response about a bike (7700fx) I was looking for that was out of stock locally, and the second time got a great response and a free replacement skewer when I couldn't find a local Trek dealer (Helens/iMartin) with the Select skewers avaible to sell/order for the Airborne wheels. I however tried local Trek dealers first like they want customers to do.

Had I not gotten one of these a Jamis Coda Elite or new Supreme would have been my choice from a Jamis dealer where there is Jamis support locally.

What it came down to was a Ti bike with excellent specs on sale for $800 vs the othe choices at double it. iMartin still helps me completely and understands that I did make an effort to buy from their company. They understand why I bought it, they agreed its a deal. They service my bike, and I in turn buy my accessories there.

I suggest someone call Jamis and offer them this thread url. If they see a need to offer email support instead of the phone, you need to let them know you prefer it. Whining online because they don't have it doesn't help them know they should offer it.

I like my Jamis bike and don't care if I talk to them or not. LBS can answer all of my questions.

supcom 12-15-05 10:52 PM

All this over a seatpost?? Any LBS should be able to supply a correct seatpost without having to contact the factory.

You need either a 29.8, 30.9, or a 31.6. I'm putting my $$$ on the 29.8
