Search for "dusk time" not "sunset time"
I used to search for "sunset time", but when it's HOT, in the middle of summer, I search for "dusk time". Dusk is at 9:07pm in my area, leaving at 7:25pmish for and hour and a halfish ride.

Yeah, air conditioning sucks.
and so does riding after sunset without having lights. When you turn them on is your choice, but pre-dawn and post-sunset are dangerous times on public roads.

Action. Here on the Delmarva coast, IME, it is no cooler at that point than at sunset. Also, it is about the worst time for drivers visibility. But, It's your ride, do it the way you like.

Also ... dusk is about the worst time to ride, because your lights, bright clothes, all that, are less visible .... color is muted but the contrast between light and dark isn't that great, so while the cone cells in your eyeballs are not giving much info, neither are the rod cells ..... basically your eyes work worst in the gloaming, the early twilight, dusk .....
I agree, if you need to ride a lot in heat, best to use the A/C as little as possible. Going from 78 or 80 to 92 really shocks the body, but if I spend several hours at 86 or 88, I can step outside a lot more easily ... and that is where the low light helps, as the sun really increases the temperature of the body.
You do you, however you do it and however well you think it works .... but riding at dusk, lights or not, is more dangerous than riding at night or in full daylight. Run two flashing tail lights with different flash patterns and drivers who are going to see you, will ... and as for the drivers who won't see you, they never will .... look how many times people say, "I hit the rider because the sun was in my eyes."

Forget dusk...dawn or morning twilight is where it's at. Just happened to wake up early today and went for a ride around 6:30am. 72 degrees....

I agree, I get up at 4:30 and out the door by 5:00am. The traffic is really light and the temps are around 75-80 here in Florida at that time of the morning. I see some other guys who have the same idea as me, there are some people jogging and riding their bikes too.

I also live in a warm climate and I can attest, that if it is too hot half an hour before sunset it is too hot half an hour after .... it is usually an hour and a half or more before the Earth stops radiating heat and the air starts cooling, in my limited experience.

What is more important is the actual temperature out in full sun on pavement. The pavement gradually heats up and then that heat is reflected back at the rider. It was so bad in the summer with the high humidity when I lived in Dallas that I would ride in an air conditioned gym to get a good workout. The humidity made my body's sweating to control my core temperature far less effective and heat stroke far more likely.
In Phoenix the air temperature peaks at around 5 pm but it takes many more hours for the pavement to cool. Currently in Las Vegas people are being warned to stay indoors from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. - if they can.
With global warming increasing year after year and our corrupted politicians doing nothing, all one can do is limit when they ride during the year. Growing up in southern California, in the summer months I often would ride after sunset and along city streets that had good street lighting and very light traffic. It was much cooler and no UV to worry about and no wind is blowing.
Where I chose to live the weather temperature is around 65-70 degrees twelve months out of the year. High today was 72 degrees at 1 p.m. and expected low tonight is 57 degrees which will allow the house to cool down overnight.
