Thanks for all the replies had no idea these things were all over the place.

Shame to hear so many of these are vandalized. ... I frequently go by this station so I'll post an update if I notice the basically brand new tools have been stolen. I'm not sure I personally would have any use it for it but I'm a big fan of the idea.

On a side note, scrap weight for steel around here is about 5 cents/pound seems like it be more worthwhile to keep the tools or resell if a thief.

Saw one (slightly different version) for sale used and looked them up. Discovered there were a few near where I live, one really close. This was before I had a repair stand at home, so I rode down with a bike that needed some love. Stand was there, but no tools. Checked a couple of others in the area, same story. I like the idea. In practice it seems like it a fools errand, in an urban environment, tools disappear faster than they could/should be replaced. Shame we can't have nice things. Wonder if it would work if they made one that "opened" for a small fee? tools/pump are behind a door that opens for 50 cents or a dollar? Still on cables but less interest in theft if the valuable parts are not out on display? More stealth less attractive target?

That's a higher price than I expected. Back when I tried to turn in some scrap steel in the '70s, it was way less than that if I recall.

Deposit cans and bottles were 10 cents after the state brought that back. Litter went down a lot.

We have several along the canal paths I ride here in Gilbert, I've actually used them to make adjustments while on my rides, sometimes it's easier then getting my toolkit out. Either they're tougher than the vandals or they just don't bother to destroy them.

I seem to remember some on the GAP.
I was thinking the tools on cables would be a good idea at home, so they didn't get lost.
