There is a business in Philly that leads guided Segway tours for tourists. I always wonder how difficult it is to keep them running.

Segway hardware is really solid, that's why they were so expensive. We had some of the converted robots. The first one we bought was basically a regular segway. The worst part was the battery, battery tech wasn't great back then. I assume later models had better batteries. The biggest problem I see with it as a tourist ride is that it was easy to make them go out of control if you push on it the wrong way. I found out when I physically tried to stop one of the robots from going out into the hallway. We had an estop switch that you activated by yanking a rope, but I was too busy fighting with it to pull the rope. There were some famous segway crashes due to that issue, wikipedia has a list. I wonder if the crash that killed the owner of the company was caused by that issue. Anyway, my crash didn't make it into wikipedia. It's sad the company is gone, what are the mall cops going to ride?

If Trek is monitoring BF/this thread to gauge interest, they should replace the o with a/an u and call the new bike the Mundane.

Part of what you're not understanding is that the "big news" will not be big news at all.

Sorry to break it to you.

Trust me. The second it's out you will feel instant relief.

Yep, which is why I think the OP should be banned. :thumb:

Not really. His postings, while often inane, don't really meet the classic troll definitions.

Smaug1 06-26-24 09:04 AM

Maybe it's this, as a way to make their bikes even more proprietary:

https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/new...e-2024-emonda/

If so:

1) that's not big news, and
2) I hate it.

Does Trek make good bikes?
Or do they collide?
Inquiring minds...........

A moderator has identified a poster as trolling. Thread is still open and poster doesnt show as banned.
...so is trolling officially allowed?

Sock is the term and trolling is what they do. Way too familiar with how to cause disruption for this to be his first rodeo.

I don’t understand the mindset that derives enjoyment from that sort of behavior.

Based on this and a few other threads, I think there was a June special -- sign up for the forum and you can troll for the first month with no repercussions.

If you did, we would all be concerned for you.

I'm willing to bet that Mike Deason doesn't even own a bike.

Maybe riding a bent isn't rewarding on its own and they get bored.

I have a source high up in Trek management, and he spilled the beans to me last night after a many, many Spotted Cows. As a consequence of the 2014 Supreme Court's "Corporations are People" ruling, Trek has decided to enter the presidential race as a third party candidate, and will be participating in the debate tomorrow night.

Went in for a light and Trek store is all decked out in World’s Collide paraphernalia from posters to styrofoam planets.

Hold on to your hats !

I think I can speak for the majority when I state "No one cares."

MikeDeason 06-26-24 01:38 PM

They’re opening the doors at midnight and encouraging attendees to dress as their favourite planet.

Refreshments and snacks no doubt on offer.

"Hey cyclists, we are overstocked and need a Marketing event, and since we finalized the latest annual frame design that the Sales team insists is the only GREaTT (GravelRaceEndurance and TimeTrial bike in the World. Optimized for everything, the 1 arrow for all your quivers. Tony the Tiger wasn't available, so World's Collide? Also, please buy our e-bikes to avoid September's Huge End of Season Sale."

I'm your Trek rep, trust me!

Trakhak 06-26-24 02:28 PM

Just read this post by the OP in a current thread on bike sizing:

"I fall right between the overlap of most 56 and 54’s

endrd up with a 56 Checkpoint and likely going to pick up a 54 Roubaix sl8 sport apex. Nice back up bike and good deal. Bought one for my daughter not long ago."

Maybe some of his posts border on (or even cross the border into) trolling. Might end up banned, might not.

But the side-comment in the post quoted above about buying such a bike for his daughter says to me that he's likely a pretty good guy IRL If this thread were to drop out of circulation after the announcement, whatever it turns out to be, I for one wouldn't mind.
