Vaast R/1 build

Howdy all,

My son and I were lucky to score 2 complete Vasst R/1 framesets (475.00 each) from LBS. Have never been a fan of matte paint finish so I spent couple hours polishing this to reasonably glossy finish. Dark cherry metallic looks much better!

Built up with Fulcrum Racing 5 wheelset I had in storage (never get rid of anything!) and Ultegra 11 speed. Bar tape is chameleon effect so turns purple depending on light and angle.

Fills out my metallurgical bike metals collection. Stiff and decent handling yet muted ride. Pretty fast for an senior side of MAMIL. On par with my Tommasini X Fire.

The pictures or post build finish, pre shakedown ride and fine tune if set up.

That second photo really shows off the improved finish. Nice.

The great thing about a Mg frame is if you decide you don't like it, you can set it on fire.

Oh, yeah, tell us what it weighs.

A Quite Unique bike in materials, made into a very nice 'road race' format. Magnesium frame with the usual road componentry gruppos...
I tried to get one last year in my size, when the price dropped dramatically... could not find one in my size...
The past 3 months they went further down in price, for the 2024 model R/1 & A/1 (different frame dims...)
Crazy good pricing +- $1500 w Shimano 105 group... for a Med... price can vary a bit depending on size, but still incredible!
Cambria Bike in San Luis Obispo, CA, which I have used quite a bit mail order and some in-store purchases has them...
I was gonna buy and drag over to Germany to replace my aging and heavily used '03 S-Works tarmac (which jus keeps going & going & Going...)

How do you polish matte paint to gloss? Do you mean you coated it with something?

Most intriguing!

This is the closest I have come to wanting to try a new road bike.

Hmmm...

Contact Cylclical Nature Bicycle shop in Hilliard Ohio. Ask for Bill owner. Not sure what he has left for size or colors.

I used auto grade pro polishing products. Mequiars and Griots both. Finish with wax containing carnuba wax. Same stuff I use on my car. Mostly by hand with some power orbital buffer.

I figured the top tube would start self polishing with just my kit wearing it down.

Sorry took so long... 18.5 pounds with Look pedals. No saddle bag or computer stuff.

If you post that a third time, I am not going to "like" it again.
