Hilarious

Don't know if this has been posted, discussed, or whatever, but this guy is freaking hilarious; he nails the pretentiousness attached to certain biking disciplines and the vacuous marketing. lol

That’s new.

Deason, you're slipping. I can't for the life of me see how this will get to six pages and/or get locked.

18 years new.

Article says July 17, 2025.

Seemed recent.

Regardless, I like the funky Full Mounty handlebars. I just got the Redshift TopShelf Handlebar and corresponding bag with Garmin mount for my Checkpoint, which kinda has the same vibe.

Nothing new at all. BSNYC (Eben Weiss) has made a good living off this (now somewhat tired) schtick for many years now. I was a fan, but now his comments are as predictable as are the 'pretentiousness' and 'vacuous marketing' he mocks. What distinguishes Weiss from, for example, you is that his mockery is at least amusing at times.

indyfabz 07-19-25 08:44 PM

He’s been a one-trick pony since 2007, as the website notes.

RCIF

I used to enjoy Style Guy more.

Anyone that thinks The Full Monty is a movie about some Irish guys starting a band has zero credibility.

Agree that style guy had a certain cachet, but with BSNYC, the quality of his writing I find a cut or two above typical blog ranting. And really, his recent fixation on gravel marketing I think is pretty spot-on; it seems like just re-inventing cross bikes.

Compared to, say, Hambini whom I also like, but his presentation skills are not up to BSNYC level.

I believe in miracles.

He doesn't. This is part of his schtick.

Feigning ignorance is part of his schtick? I guess that explains why he appeals to the OP.

bboy314 07-20-25 08:29 AM

It’s ironic that so many of OP’s threads are about his disdain for cyclists.

Not only that, but it seems we've talked about BSNYC at least about eleventy-five different times here already.

unterhausen 07-20-25 09:37 AM

Somehow I don't think that a guy that lives in NYC has much credibility talking about gravel bikes. But if you make your living writing about being a bike snob, you gotta write about something.

MikeDeason 07-20-25 09:40 AM

Never heard of him before.

article is very recent so it’s current.

discuss or don’t discuss. Its funny.

Some of these bike companies websites, Surley comes to mind as do a few others, come off as a parody of branding.

indyfabz 07-20-25 09:47 AM

The top of the page says it all. End of discussion.

He needs to move to Philly. Plenty of city streets offer the gravel experience.

don't really care if it is old. Quoting old man music is a BF staple. Surely old bike information can be resurrected.

For those that missed it:

So what is it? It’s called the “Full Mounty” handlebar, which is a delightful play on words based on the popular 1990s comedy movie about a group of loutish Dubliners who form a soul band ...

He's thinking of "The Commitments", it seems. Also, "The Full Mounty" would be about CANADIANS.
