Any suggestions for this?
 

Hello all - Hoping for a suggestion...Installed a bar on my handlebars a while back to hold a GoPro or a headlight or both or my phone and Garmin and whatever. No matter how tight I think I get it it still seems to want to "roll" forward. I tried using gaffers tape under the mount to try to provide a little friction to hold it in place and it's better but still moves. (I'm a videographer - gaffers tape can fix almost anything). Anyone had any luck getting one to stay still? Thanks in advance!

If you can't torque it down enough directly to the handlebar, I'm suspecting a design flaw.

In the way distant past, I used to rock a Minoura SpaceBar for lights and a computer. This was the days before Garmins and phones. I don't remember ever having this issue.

Which end is rotating - the clamp to the handlebars, or the clamp that holds the auxiliary bar? The clamp on the handlebars should have come with various rubber inserts to fit different diameter bars.

The clamp on the handlebars rotates. It came with various inserts but they slid even more than the gaff tape...They were more plastic than rubber - I wonder if I made a couple of rubber ones if they would work?

You can try to use Carbon gripper paste. It's not actually meant for that kind of stuff, but it provides more surface friction and might work.

Okay, I think I know what you bought. I modified two sets of them to mount an external battery pack for my GoPro with the GoPro mounted to the battery. Both handlebars and battery are the same diameter, give or take a few tenths of a mm.
What is the diameter of your handlebar? I don't use any plastic or rubber inserts on mine and it clamps down tightly.

Wrap the bar with a piece of old inner tube.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner! The rubber will compress and really grip the bar. The OP just needs to be sure the bar is clean and maybe scuff the inner tube with sandpaper for extra grip.

I didn't think of that...I've got an old one laying around too...definitely will try! Thanks for the idea!

I'd have to measure but I'm pretty sure when I installed it originally that the inserts fell out once while I was tightening it and it didn't clamp tight without something put in there. When I take it apart to take off the gaff tape I can try. Thanks! Appreciate the reply.

You guys absolutely nailed it. Took all the gaffers tape off the handlebars and cleaned the area with brake cleaner. Cut about a 12" length of innertube and split it so it was flat. Wrapped it nice and tight around the handlebar on each side for the 2 clamps and held it tight with a small strip of gaff tape. Installed and took it on a 25 mile test ride today...solid! Didn't move one bit with a Garmin and phone attached.
