Nose-less Saddle

What do you think about nose-less saddles to eliminate pressure, like this one at raello.com - thoughts?

I don't know about that brand. Nine or ten years ago I tried a noseless saddle by ISM. I bought more of their saddles for my other bikes. The one you referenced seems like it has too much padding, at least to me. You better test drive it first.

Bikes: 1982 Trek 930R Custom, '91 Diamondback Ascent w/ XT, XTR updates, Fuji Team Pro CF road flyer, Specialized Sirrus Gravel Convert, '09 Comencal Meta 5.5 XC, '02 Marin MBX500, '84 Gitane Criterium bike

i rode once... once.

chaffed the cheek/leg junction on both sides.
tried a few positions.. they all sucked.
i hate monkey butt.

i refuse to ride one ever again.
i guess they'd be ok if you never had to pedal.
i recall not having an easy time finding my "spot", center-wise.
i hate those super-wide beach cruiser seats about as much.

some people must like the no nose seats... they're still around.
maybe they're just pass-arounds.
i find a narrow nose and flexible 140-145mm, rounded edge wings fit me... even with my pudgy old man thighs.
wider equals pressure, IMO.
the more you sit on the seat, the more it will hurt, no matter what you choose... and by the third spring ride, no more pain.

The nose serves a purpose in bike control

Go with a slotted saddle, lots of threads on these, but the Selle Itallia SLR saddles have been comfortable for me and a lot of people like the the Selle SMP line, which has a dropped nose

From the site: "We tested the Raello saddle in a head-to-head on-line purchase intent study.

Remarkably, over 48% of riders selected the Raello saddle over all other nose-less and traditional saddle types."

A purchase intent study? How does the intent to purchase prove ANYTHING about the saddle? And even if it did...you can't purchase one. That's funny.

there's always a sucker looking to buy somebody's idiotic idea ..........................................................once upon a time i bought a BUELL Lightening, an ill conceived, poorly built, over priced Harley offering that i couldn't keep running and couldn't sell so as one sucker to another potential sucker i recommend that you buy a variety of noseless saddles so as to totally satisfy your noseless curiosity knowing full well that it's OK to be a sucker as long as you can afford it and remember suckers are the cornerstone of Capitalism so knowing that you are supporting our ever shrinking bicycle economy will give solace when you eventually go shopping for one of those Brooks or Ergon or Selle SMPs

It seems like a good idea at first, until one realizes the perineal pressure that causes numbness doesn't really come from the nose part of the saddle.

I have to admit a felt a little Smaug1 when I made that post.

And of course if they are actually a new member, my comment would have not meant anything to them.

Sounds like the joke about the guy who had a dog with no legs who had to take it for a drag twice a day. Wanted puppies but it was pointless

I saw an ancient article in a cycling magazine many years ago about using a pair of handlebars as a saddle. The idea was that you attach a sling across the drops of an upturned set of drop bars and figure out a way to attach them to a seat post. I actually tried to do this and it was a total failure
But, for a brief time, my ass was in a sling

I thought the point of noseless and short-nose saddles was that you could mount them farther forward without incurring the wrath of the UCI for violating their 5cm minimum saddle setback rule.

That reminds me of this, sadly a real saddle. https://realseat.com

Not "of course." Many if not most new members read a forum for a while before bothering to register. And yes, it was an unwelcoming gesture, at the very least, for the sake of a weak joke pitched to the in crowd.

This is a known troll topic posted by someone who created a new account on 11/9, posted, then looked once again the morning of 11/10, then never came back to the forum. Classic troll behavior. Of course there were also comedic posts regarding how a noseless saddle smells. All in good fun, and harmless, as was my post. I also posted a lot of links about the same subject for them to look at.

Okay, I'm done.

The account was also created less than a week after the known troll had served a timeout for "chronic trolling" and it listed the same hometown as the chronic troll. This doesn't prove the new member is a sock of the known troll, but it does looks suspicious.

Yes, that was my thought as well, and no it doesn't prove anything. My post was simply tongue in cheek.
