GPS problems?

Has anyone else noticed problems with gps due to the solar storm?
My MapMyRide failed yesterday. It didn’t record anything. A couple of days before it logged distance but not the route.

I haven't noticed anything the past few days, but there there were definite problems with aircraft GPS during previous solar storms.

I will try again today. It might be the app.

Time for the “I don’t and never will own a bike computer” people to chime in.

“Back in my day, we used paper maps from the gas station, which gave away Green and Blue Chip stamps, and cleaned your windshield, checked your oil and tire pressure, and were happy to do it.”

I probably never will, assuming you mean a GPS-enabled device. I will be replacing my CatEye wireless soon. My current one fell off yesterday and got run over by a car.

If it had GPS, it would have known not to fall off in the road.

It couldn’t help it. I got physically assaulted by a motorist who got out of his car after I said something tame to him after he buzzed me. He was doubly mad because another can was blocking his path. I think my chest dislodged the computer when the guy grabbed my rear rack as I was trying to ride away.

The app behaved normally today.
It was eith the solar storm or the app just glitched. Probably glitched.
I turned my phone off and back on before I started riding.

A good reason why all devices mounted on the bars that are somewhat expensive or important should have a lanyard. Though the old CatEys's weren't very much cost that will bust a hole in anyone's pocket.

Just booted my 1050, walked outside, had a correct position on the map, did a short little test track record walking up and down the driveway. Worked fine, so no issues here in the NYC area. Dont know if the northern lights are flaring here at dusk.

Might be the reason my 1050 works fine and when I went to the beach tonight in a dark parking lot, on an otherwise clear light, saw nothing.

Yep. Two nights ago was the peak. Last night was less spectacular.

Assuming it’s clear Monday night, I’m going to head to a state forest to watch the Leonid meteor shower. I’ll probably “camp” in the back of the Forester as the low is supposed to be around freezing.

Bikes: a bunch

I used to use MapMy apps for ride and hike - both became very spotty on actually picking up segments.
I switched to RideWithGPS free version for all my rides - and it works foolproof (except when the 'fool' forgets to hit the START button...)
I use it on my cell... the cell is 'live' and is carried, but not on handlebar.

Other thing I like about RideWithGPS is that it is, by far, the best GPS for measuring actual distance rode... IN comparison to 2 different Garmin units (130 & 540), the IGPsport, and worst is the Bryton 420.
How do I know?
I have a VDO on-bike computer which is set for a very accurate rollout of my bike wheels - to within +-2mm for one full 700c circumference of my rear wheel - measured 2129 mm
RideWithGPS on my cell is usually short about .18 to .2 (2/10s) mile over a 25 mile measured distance.
The 2 Garmin were usually .32 to .35 mi off
The IGPsport usually .34 to .37 off
The Bryton 420 usuall .46 to .54 off
all over the same course and a distance of 25 miles in rollout measure.

RideWIthGPS for the win on GPS ride distance accuracy (on my Pixel 7a) compared to the the bike GPS computers I tried...
also seems to have good accuracy on GAIN and HR data - but much harder to verify the accuracy - just that the numbers seem credible given what numbers from other sources... (like a dedicated HRM...)
