Happy Thanksgiving to all.
I know there are quite a few here who are not Americans but it's important to understand the idea behind the holiday. Originally, the holiday was created to give thanks to God for the blessings of the New World and opportunities thereof. Whether you believe in God or not, whether you appreciate what has become or can become of the New World or not and whether your even American (or Canadian, although I know the Canucks had their Thanksgiving a few weeks ago), what is important is the idea of taking the time to be grateful for what you do have.
You can lament personal and societal troubles the rest of the year. But today be grateful that you're here, that you're in reasonably good health, that you have internet and the power to run it. Hopefully you have plenty of food and family with whom you can share your good fortune. Whether you want to thank God, or Gaia or the infinite universe, just take some time to marvel at the wonder of life on this planet and be grateful for what you have. Because it could be so much worse.
