You can start here: https://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/pac...ral/index.html

Write a description of your invention. Include drawings and test results if applicable. Sign and date everything, and get a witness to sign and date also. Talk to a patent attorney. The initial consultation over the phone is usually no-cost.

If you don't already have one, get a non-disclosure agreement. That will protect your rights to the invention as you discuss it with manufacturers. If you discuss your invention with anyone, make sure they sign your non-disclosure agreement first.

That's just the beginning. How successful you are depends on you.

I think you're thinking of this.

Bontrager I was about to say the same thing. A friend of mine did this with some writings of his that were going to be published.

Just mail it to yourself a couple times and don't open it.

Just because Richard didn't reply to the biospace comments, just curious, did you read this?

Just in case it is the same.

Good luck though

Thanks to each of you for your letters of encouragement and advice. I have had three engineers review my design and confirm its feasibility.

Here is wishing us all good luck in our individual pursuits.
