My purchases this week!

I have decided to get into biking for utility and fitness. I have been spending time figuring out what works and what doesn't. This is what I've ended up with.

🚴 Your bikes
2023 Highboy EX-9
2022 Trail Tracker
2024 Specialized Sirrus X 2.0
2010 Ridley Crossbow
2018 Trek Domane 5

(Oh and two camping cruisers...his and hers just no her yet)

🛒 Grocery / errands → Highboy EX-9
⛰️ Hills / wind → Highboy EX-9
🚴 Long road rides → Trek Domane 5/Ridley crossbow
⚡ Fast fitness → Trek Domane 5/Ridley crossbow
🪨 Rough roads / gravel → Ridley Crossbow
🏖️ Sand / trails / rocks→ Trail Tracker
🌆 Casual chill rides/ commuter → Specialized Sirrus X 2.0

Let's hear some of your collections!
I like all of mine for their different proficiencies.

My primary use bicycle is a 1947 Schwinn DX cruiser. I only use it for big adventures now. It used to be my regular around town bike until it got stolen from the front of Chuck’s Bike Shop even though it was secured with a large chain. I just dropped in the shop to pick up a new horn for the bike and when I came outside, all that was left was the chain cut up in many pieces. Recovering, it became a real endeavor, even taking me to the Alamo in Texas where I was told it may be in the basement. Unfortunately, the Alamo does not have a basement, but the story does have a happy ending when it was found in Burbank California on a movie set and after a chaotic chase, I recovered it.

Sounds like a story worth telling more fully.

Yes but the full story takes about 1 hour and 31 minutes to tell.

So you just got into cycling and you purchased 5 bikes in one week and it took you one week to figure out what works and what doesn't, wow.

Everybody in my life has a big 'but'.

Every January 11th I light a candle and remember Large Marge.

We’ve been riding bikes our while lives—this isn’t new to us.

Thinking about the Treck Damone + AL 5..

There are a lot of people in this world who didn't grow up with bikes...I also have a feeling that those 5 bikes you purchased within a week are all going to sit unused.

They all serve a purpose. The road bikes may overlap a bit but I am working on whether I want electric, analog or both...going to check out the Trek Domane + AL 5 today.

On that...would you go with a Trek Domane or a giant defy 2 or 3?

I’m getting big “son of Deason” energy here…

Even Deason's trolling was more entertaining than this guy's.

But what the hell. The GC subforum has turned into reality TV -- it's entertaining in it's foolish stupidity. There's not been any useful content here for ages.

I wouldn't be too hard on him. There are a lot of lonely people in the world. If this behavior helps him feel better about himself, so be it.

You’re asking me what something you wrote means?

Thanks. First I thought Larry, but then I was thinking of someone else but couldn’t remember the name. The details in the bike names definitely screams MD.

What saddle/saddles are you going with on these bikes?

I’m testing options, since standard bike design seems geared toward mass vasectomies.
I am trying the split seat...and will try the type with the hole in the middle...and my favorite by far is the bucket seat where there is no nose cone. I think I nailed the terminology but correct me if I'm wrong.

Mvcrash 04-22-26 08:45 AM

I have a few bikes and a her.... I like riding both but not at the same time.

lnanek 04-22-26 09:08 AM

Maybe someone should make a game like fantasy football, but for bike ownership.

Anyway, I have:
  • Trek 5000 - commuting
  • Trek 6500 with middle baby seat - picking up kid from school or if my ass hurts too much from the former, tires are twice as wide
  • Dahon Ford folding bike - if it's raining or something and wife is going to drop me off in a car, but I'm riding the bike home
  • Kulana Lua tandem w/ middle baby seat - family excursions to parks, playgrounds, hiking, swimming holes, picnics, etc.
  • Ariel Rider X-Class - if in a hurry/need to pick up a Facebook marketplace purchase from far away

My wife has:
  • Townie Electra 9D w/ rear rack baby seat - everything

For long rides on your Domane here is a 'bucket seat' with backrest and no 'nose'. Pedal On! Gotta love those ape hanger bars, too, for long fast days in the 'bucket'.

You went out and bought 5 bikes, when you can't even sit properly on a bike saddle yet?

Atlas Shrugged 04-22-26 01:16 PM

I also had a 1978 Masi Gran Criterium. In my late teens, I was the ultimate "Cutter," a local kid from the limestone quarries who treated my Masi like a high-performance Ferrari, convinced that with enough leg shaving and opera, much to my father's consternation, I’d transform into a world-class Italian pro. I spent my days drafting behind semi-trucks and faking an accent to woo a college girl, but my Mediterranean dream hit the pavement when the real Italian team came to town and literally sabotaged my race. Heartbroken and forced back into reality, I teamed up with my three best friends to take on the arrogant university frat boys in the Little 500 bike race. I rode that Masi until my legs were absolute jelly, taping my feet to the pedals to stay upright, before my crew brought it home for a legendary underdog victory. After the dust had settled, I traded my "Ciao!" for a "Bonjour!"—I decided to abandon my townie friends, sold the Masi, and I moved on to a French phase, but that is another story for another bicycle.

No. He didn’t. Remember the other BF member who was always talking about the bikes he had just bought?
