Do a search with "light", "halogen" or "LED" and you will find many threads where this has been discussed.

"Shine far" and "cheap" don't go together. If you really want a light that shines far, you'll have to get HID lights...or at least high wattage halogen lights.

The Cateye Triple Shot rechargeable is pretty nice. Most of my riding is at noc, the battery pak lasts a good 3 hours- expensive though, but well worth it for me.

More like "shine far" and anything with "LED" in it.

There's a light on that site that looks incredibly bright (22w LED), but there's no link. I forgot the right string in google to get directly to the page. It costs as much as HID though, so it's really "shine far" and "cheap".

Up to 22 watts of intense pure white light (22 watts from this LED bike light is roughly equivalent to a 44 watt Halogen light! Up to 432 Lumens of blazing light! Excellent throwing narrow beam with great side spill for close up lighting.
I'm a bit skeptical about that. Runs on AA batteries? For $300 USD i'd rather get a HID system.

I see a new saying coming to replace the old one that says...

" lightweight, cheap, reliable... pick any two"

something along the lines of "powerful, cheap, LED.... pick any two " ??

Remember that LED's are solid state devices...I can't imagine a 22W LED lasting very long... The highest wattage LED's that I know that can last 100,000 hours are 3W...event the 5W ones are probably around 10,000 or fewer hours (brightness diminishes with time). I would guess a 22W LED would barely last a few hundred hours, if even that...especially in higher temperature environments. One of the main points with going LED is the price and how long the LED lasts...but I think those points are lost with the high wattage LED's.

Most LED's suck as far as lighting anything goes not alone a far distance; there are some real high powered LED's that some posters mentioned above but those things are stupidly expensive at over $300 including the 3 led 3 beam Cateye.

You did not say how much cheap is for you. You can get 13 watts of power for $48 with a Cygolite Metro or 25 watts for $100 with a Cygolite Explorer NiMh; either of these lights will give you very good lighting for a reasonable amount of cash.

It's several smaller wattage LEDs put together.

I use a 35W 36 degree beam Phillips energy saver halogen lamp with a 12V rechargable battery in my backpack. It works very well and lasts a long time. The battery is a 7.5 ah lead acid gel cell and I get just over 2 hours on that which is sufficient for me. I can put up with the 2.6 kg's of extra weight because it is one of the brighter head lamps I've seen around.

If you are willing to put out some more money get a xenon arc lamp setup. Daylight was never so bright at 10W.

In that case blah. False advertising. So he's claiming 22w combined wattage? Or what?

Thanks guys, I now know that it's a hard decision I have to make. 100 bucks is too expensive for me. And LED can't shine far. Maybe I'll consider getting a halogen. Thanks again..

I can't tell you more than what's on his site. I searched about it a while ago and stumbled on a lighting forum (he posted here too, in the shameless promo forum). I have no reason to think he's talking thru his hat, just saying that high-power LED do exist but they lose all advantages normally attributed to LED. In my opinion, putting 300$ on a high-power LED doesn't make any less sense than 300$ on HID. I don't have 300$ to burn on any kind of light, nor do I need 22w LED.
