selling a bike

Good Morning forumites.
I am going to sell my older Miele road bike as I've just purchased a new one and don't need 3!
My question is, does anyone have any opinions regarding selling on eBay? I've watched the action for a while and see a lot of bikes back on the market because of non payment, good bikes going for peanuts, poor ones going for a lot and the media is full of horror stories regarding buyers and sellers being given the runaround by PayPal. Needless to say, I'm not happy with that prospect!
Any one with personal experience?

Brian

Bikes: few too many...

EBay pisses me off because of how they charge so much to post your item to sell, then take a % of the final price...

Probably better off posting it for sale at some LBS or other sporting goods stores or maybe even gyms.

Hi There

I see you're from Ontario as well!

Try Canadian cyclist. www.canadiancyclist.com There is a classified form that works well. I've bought and sold on there with good success. Big plus, You'll likely be able to meet the person b/c most are central ON buyers.

MTBR is ok and there is a road classified as well, but, you must watch out for those Nigerian $$ scams.

Best of luck.

I don't buy on Ebay. I always check out my local paper's classified ads, some LBS, word of mouth, thrift stores, and other local vendors when I purchase used.

I posted one on Craigslist and so far have gotten one serious inquirey and two Nigerian scam offers....

I've had good luck selling by posting at the university I work at; students are always looking for cheap commuters, and the faculty generally have enough bucks to look at better bikes.
