It was my first e-mail account, I've used it on every forum I've ever joined (30+) It sticks pretty well most of my friends call me Rp for short.
I've met many online forum friends and have found we nearly always use our handles instead of real names.
rite.........shortened from right
path........my first name and last initial

The middle name is after my dad, the last is the same as his, the only two people who know why I have my first name are deceased.

Flying Merkel- an old American manufacturer of motorcycles & bicycles. Reflects my love of both. Considered one of the worst names in motorcycledom. Reminds me not to take either one too seriously.
There was an English motorcycle called " Abingdon King Dick" That's the worst ever.

Hotbike, because my email address is hotbike at hotmail.com
"My bike isn't so hot, but hotmail isn't so hot either."
Coolbike at hotmail.com was already taken.
I am also known as AviationMetalSmith ; When I was in the Navy, my rating (MOS) was Aircraft Mechanical Structures (structures), abbreviated AMS. There are two other nicknames for Navy aircraft mechanics; "Aviation Sheet Metal", and Aviation Metal Smith.

Because most all of the scars on my body are from mountain biking, and I thought I'd never want to do it again at the time I joined, but I was WRONG.
I'm known as Nitsuj82 on other forums, which is my first name spelled backwards and my birth year.

Jim from Boston. D'uh.
I occasionally call into radio talk shows as Jim from Boston (I'm sure they would disallow my real moniker of Dr. Perfect.) My favorite calls have been to a couple of WRKO Boston hosts, in particular Howie Carr, who have railed against bicyclists. My subtitle when I call or write the station is "Your Number One Fan among Boston's Bicycle Commuters."

I am in the US Navy and I ride road bikes. I am surprised at how many people don't see the connection between Squid and US Sailor.

I originally read it way back when it was published as a graphic series in Heavy Metal Magazine. It stuck with me.
Later when trying to think of a good screen name for a Pagan from Texas it kept coming back.

My screenname is a takeoff from the movie "The Italian Job". The character Handsome Rob has an attitude I feel like I can relate to. My real name is Ryan so there you go...
Sorry to disapoint, I'm average looking at best.

Mine was chosen because I have the uncanny ability to stand on land.
Well that, plus a skit from Home Movies which I found particularly entertaining (yes, I'm easily amused). It starts approximately 4m12s into this clip, and lasts for about a minute and a half... just in case anyone's interested.
