This last friday I swapped bikes with a buddy of mine. We happen to wear the same shoe size so I got to try out his clipless pedals first hand. Holy cripes!!!! I had an enormous boost in my performance. I was leading our little group for the first time, usually I'm the back rider sucking to just keep up. I finished our 10 mile loop and felt like it was nothing. My buddy caught up to me at one point when I was coasting to let him catch up and he was completely out of breath at the pace we were going. I hadn't even gotten my heart rate up. Next day I immediately went and bought a pair of shoes and pedals. Clipless is the way to go.

ps. Yes I did fall down the first time I stopped even though I had read to unclip the opposite foot. Oh well I have strong shoulders.

If you haven't already done it, do a little stopping practice.

I'm new to cycling so right now we are sticking with a 10 mile loop around our local lake. When I started I was doing it in 45 minutes....sad I know. today we did a run in just under 39. We are all on mountain bikes so I know the times aren't much compared to road bikes but we are really trying to hammer it.
