Which brings up a question, Joe. What's the longest running thread in the history of bikeforums?

And what happens to posts after they sink to the bottom of the list from disuse?

carl
(and when I was a kid, I used to eat spam sliced real thin and fried crisp and smothered in ketchup - what the heck was I thinking?)

I think the longest thread had ~90 replies, but it wasnt a "real" thread, it was a word game thread. As for old posts, there still avalible on the forums. I dont like to prune or delete old threads, as i think of this website / forum as a big living bicycle FAQ.

OK, you guys (or as we say here in New Orleans and the rest of the South, ya'll), I have to come to the defense of a couple of great American food traditions.

First of all, someone unfairly maligned Deviled Ham. Now, if you read the ingredients, Deviled Ham is made from ham, and I don't think it smells like cat food at all. There is a similarly packaged product called potted meat that is made from leftover parts and organs that does smell like cat food. When I was young (1950's) we used to often picnic on Deviled Ham sandwiches when travelling. That was before the advent of nutritious alternatives like McDonalds.

Now,as to Spam, I have very fond memories of mornings at a particular aunt's house at which breakfast would often consist of piles of fried eggs and fried sliced Spam. My mother would sometimes dip slices of Spam in egg then cracker crumbs and fry until golden brown. Now that's eatin'!

A good friend of mine, who has a gift for creative turn of phrase, refers to such meals as "heart-stoppin' good". On that, I think we can all agree.

Spam is like McDonalds, it never quite dies. It just sort of comes back as a zombie.

Bill Cosby did a routine about "The Chicken Heart That Ate New York City".

"The Spam That Ate BikeForums" would be scarier.

Ummm...pass on the cow's stomach for now, but don't know what it is about Spam (the unusually edible kind), i have this weird relationship with it. I must admit I love it (with rice; spam thinly sliced).

For those with the unusually-weird relationship with Spam, here's their official Spam Fan club's site:

hey, Rainman forgot about the Deviled Ham sandwiches! Man, I grew up on those as well! What were my parents thinkin????

I too am amazed.

I've seen interesting topics with only two or three replies.

Spam, however, seems to warrant much discourse.

Hey Fubar, I like the caption underneath your name. Should keep people from being confused.

Never had cow's stomach, but cow's tongue. Now that's a delicacy.

We lived in Australia for a couple of years when I was a kid, and I used to love steak and kidney pies - until it occurred to me that it wasn't just a figure of speech - there really were kidneys in it. We don't eat that kind of stuff in Texas (well, maybe calf fries).

Never could get use to Veg-e-mite (how do you spell it - more importantly, how do you eat it?)

H.G. Wild,

We must be living some parallel existence! I lived in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia for one year, which is near
where Chris L. lives now. Fair dinkum, I did!

Awesome, Mate!

Hey! I've got a great idea. Let's not do anymore "I-can't-believe-this-thread-is-still-alive" posts! But that might
be like saying "Don't think of a pink elephant." That's the first thing you do!

We could start a new thread called, "What was that???" and maybe people will start posting there.

Maybe Joe will kill it! Can he do that?

Look, we might get a mention in the Guinness Book of World Records...

Geraldine would be amazed, too!

Surely nobody can kill this thread. It could go into the Guiness Book of Records as the most innane piece of drivel ever, possibly the longest streak of stupidity in the history of mankind! No, wait, that was that stupid chain letter I got in my e-mail the other day telling me I was going to be eaten alive by mad goats if I didn't "send this on to 5 people in the next 3.2 seconds", and that I would die instantly if I accidentally forwarded it to 4 or 6 people.

I wonder if I could save myself and tempt the goats with some spam?

And while I'm at it...

I'm just hoping we can keep this thread alive long enough for me to graduate from "junior member" to member.

What better place for meaningless posts intended solely for self-promotion than a spam post?
