My bike is my toy, my stress relief, my hideout, my gym, and my escape from the world.

Putting on layers and layers of compact but warm cycling clothes in the winter just to find that you going to be late for work because you can't find a glove and it's 25c below and you have no choice in the matter because you have no other way to get to work. So you run around your apartment bundled up like a Southpark kid in search of this one glove, getting hotter and hotter as you get madder and madder.

Finally, you find the glove stashed between the cushons in the couch that you checked three times before. Now 15 minutes late for work, you get outside and freeze to death anyway because all the sweat soaking in the bottom layer of your winter Southpark cycling outfit has turned to ice

Your only hope is that there's enough adreanalin pumping in you from the mad apartment search that you can ride hard enough and fast enough to work without being so late that your boss is going to tear your head clean off with his bare hands when he sees you next. Of course, when he sees your bloodshot, still enraged eyes from under your frozen eyelashes, he should hopefully know better than to screw with you in such a psychotic state of mind.

That's what I hate about cycling.

Yes, that's one problem I neglected to mention- the IMAGE! Cycling is still not seen as a REAL sport by many here in north america, because we think the only real sports have to be played in stadiums or gyms, and that REAL athletes are huge, muscled hulks. Bikes are seen as toys, since children have them and so basically ANYONE can ride a bike. And there is no other sport where you have articles written about how dumb they are- remember all those articles this summer about how cycling isn't a REAL sport and cyclists are these skinny guys who aren't REAL athletes and what an annoyance they are. When was the last time anyone wrote an article in a major newspaper about how dumb NASCAR is?And of course anyone who has a car can ride NASCAR right? And of course, anyone who has a hockey stick can play in the NHL! Nope, cycling doesn't take any training at all- anyone who has a bike can just get up off the couch and go up Mont Ventoux!

... motorists, pedestrians and their pets, all sorts of junk on the road that causes flats.

So many bikes, so little time ... and money.

I guess it all depends how much one cares about what others think of them. To be honest, I really couldn't care less if the great unwashed think I'm mad or whatever. In fact, I'd probably be happier with myself if I knew for sure that they did.

Sorry, there are no problems with cycling.

Everything negative I thought about was my own doing or hang-ups.

For example. . .

Running out of chain lube . . . my fault, not cycling's.

Getting stared at in the convenience store when dressed in full lycra regalia. . . my self-consciousness, get over it - not cycling's fault.

Motorists. . . They're in far greater danger in their car than I am on my bike. To press my point, I have a 15 year-old son. He's talking about driving next year. I'm already worried about him driving. When he's on his bike I understand there are risks, but he's safer driving to town on a bike than driving a car. Anyway, motorists make cycling. . . challenging. . . at times, but cyclists make driving challenging, too. In my town the young teen boys on their 20" bmx stunt bikes are all over the roads, and they are inconsiderate, aggressive, arrogant and have no regard for right of way - or that playing in traffic can get them hurt.

Cycling has no problems, as with the rest of life, the problems lie with stupid humans.

Stupid drivers! The worst have to be teenagers in ricerockets and rednecks in giant 4x4 pickups. In my experience, neither will even acknowledge you are on the road, much less give you a little room when they pass. I really like it when people get all the way over on the other side of the road when they pass. Sometimes I even give them a little wave or a thumbs up when they go around. Scares the hell out of me when some moron goes by me going 80 mph and his left side tires are barely over the center line.

Actually, I've found that motorcyclists are the best- they give cyclists a wide berth. Also, people who drive those snazzy collector cars, you see them mostly on weekends during the nice weather. They're so afraid of anything scratching their cars, so they also give cyclists a wide berth. I usually give THEM a thumbs up since I love old cars.

the only problem with cycling is, now let me see, hmmmmm, hmmmm, Well I guess there isn't one.

But that is only for road. For me I replace my tires bi-monthy at 60$ a tire. My freehub goes on average about 1.5 months at 50$ for part and labour (will be buying the tool soon), Pedals monthly to bimonthly. Suspension maintenance depending on the courses I am doing can get pricey. Broken deraileurs, chains every 2 months and a cassette every 4 months.

While road cycling isn't expensive, mountain biking is very expensive. This is only with aggro xc and light freeriding. I would hate to see what a dhiller or real freerider puts into their bike.

Just saw a Minority Report. This movie is about the year 2054.

I have not noticed not a single trail or even a shoulder on a road in this movie.

Worse than that the roads go not only horizontally, but vertically too. What makes them unsuitable for cycling.

That is the Spielberg's vision of the future without us.

Such people offer their ideas to society. This is the problem.

Biggest problem of cycling is the total lack of serious government interest.

Agreed-interest, promotion, involvement, development. Then we hear about the increasing problems of obesity among young people. Want to fight obesity- get them out of the living room and into sports.
