Quick -what would you pay- ?

I have a buddy that doesn't use his Yakima trailer-hitch bike rack. It is probably about 3 years old w/ no rust but the rubber bike fasteners (stretch over frame to hold down on rack) are dried/cracked and probably need to be replaced.

He wants $100.00 Is this overpriced?

Thanks!

How many bikes does it hold? Does it fold down to open the trunk? Does the support bar fold down so it doesn't stick out when you are not carrying bikes?
My LBS has nice hitch mounted racks for $150.00 that hold three bikes. I think $100 is to much.

I usually see them retailed for $150 also. I would agree that $100 is too much for a 3 year old hitch with issues with the rubber fasteners.
Maybe if it was $75 or less. You should try bartering with your friend.

Thanks for the replys. It holds 4 bikes. He won't budge on price and said he paid over $350 for it new . I told him good luck with it.

Yeah. You might want to remind him that it isn't new any more.

Go to Walmart, but a $30 DVD player and tell him you payed $500 for it 3 years ago! Then make the trade!

Unfair comparison.

Doesn't Yakima make 2 or 3 models of hitch mounted bike carriers? He may well have paid $350 for it. Check the current MSRP. The nicer racks hold the bikes more securely.
