hi guys

A few of my friends and I (in melbourne, australia) are looking for some old abandoned bikes to fix and polish up (just for the fun of it).

Do you know where in melbourne we can get those old bikes? Could you get them for free?

Cheers
Sing

I dunno about Australia but here in Maine, USA we have a weekly statewide classifides called "Uncle Henry's" where you can find interesting older bikes that just need someone who cares for about $20-$50 a peice.

I dunno about Maine, but in Ohio we bite down on a Tim Tam, suck down a VB while looking at the bulletin board at the milk bar. Once in a while something turns up.

We have "freecycle" on the internet and last year I picked up about a dozen bikes needing work. Mostly I had to put tubes and sometimes tires plus the usual cleaning, oiling and adjusting. When I'm done I always give them away. FREECYCLE is great.

In the desert southwest (AZ - USA) we have a "bicycle collective" that deals in used and out of stock parts. They hold classes to teach anybody who wants to learn about bicycle repair - even wheel building. People donate their old bikes, abandoned machines get donated, stuff like that. You never know what might roll through the door - I've found many parts the new stores just laugh at me about. Perhaps you have such a place in your locale/

You might be able to buy in bulk for like $20 or something.

What do you do for this? Just go in and ask if they are selling bikes? Or if there are like specific auctions going on?

The police by me will put out flyers and have something about it on their web page.

Man, I wish freecycle in my area was good. I'm lucky to see that many bikes in a year, and most listed are children's.
