trek 1500 for 16th
#2
Bought mine in April 05. I love it. put 1400 miles on last summer, one century, several time trials, and a lot of climbing. It seems to be a great all around bike. No issues at all. Except when I cracked the CF seatpost while tightening (stupid). I just put Bontrager Race X Lite Aero wheels on a few weeks ago. Still very cold and snowy here so I havent had a chance to ride it with the new wheels yet. Nothing wrong with the factory wheels its just that I am 6'1 230 and wanted something stiffer.

With the exception of the few idiotic, Trek hating trolls in here, I have heard nothing at all negative about that bike. It is about the same level of bike as my LeMond Tourmalet...the component package is the same but the geometry is very different. I love my LeMond and would imagine that if I had the Trek I would like that very much as well. Go for it. I am sure your son will love it.
Cheers,
Brian

The wife just bought a 1500WSD and loves it. After 800 miles it is running great. I am impressed with the components for less than $1000 on a last year's model.

I have one; like it a lot.
The triple crank may be unnecessary if Boardman, OH is flat.
If he's still growing, you may want to go with a less expensive bike. A grand is a lot to spend on a bike he may outgrow pretty quickly.
