Bikes: highly modified specialized crossroads and GT hybrid (really a [formerly] 12-speed bmx cruiser, made before 'hybrid' took on its current meaning), as yet unmodified redline 925, couple of other projects

The specs look very similar... I'd pick whichever one feels better.
But I am curious to know why you're set on getting this style of bike...

I owned a mountain bike several years ago; Trek 950. When I moved I ended up selling the bike, figuring I wouldn't have as much time at my new place. This ended up being the case, but now really up for getting a bike and getting back into it.
Started looking at bikes the past weekend and came to the following conclusion:
Mountain - Can be fun if you are really going to use it for what it is intended; off road trails, gravel roads, etc. Kind of like those that buy an SUV, but never actually go off road LOL
Road - Had one before the mountain bike and as much as I liked it, was limited solely to paved roads
Gary Fisher Zebrano S or Marin San Rafael - Best of both worlds
So what style of bike do you recommend?

I looked at the Marin San Rafael but ended up buying a Scott Sub30. Thought the Scott was a much better bike.

Can you elaborate with your thoughts regarding it being a better bike? Forgot to also mention I found a place that has the 2005 models on Closeout and I can get the Marin San Rafael for $349.

Yeah, know what you mean, that is kind of how I settled on the Marin San Rafael compared to several others, and come to think of it, being able to get a brand new Marin San Rafael for only $340 is really hard to pass up
