Now that I'm a certified, condemned BikeForums addict/junkie/pervert (ok, shutup,)

I find I enjoy watching movies while posting.

But all I really like is the scenery. I flip channels depending on the scenery, music, etc. without following the plots (they are all too thin and predictable anyway.)

So I split my mental screen between BikeForums and the tv, which take a distant second (but I still watch the cool scenery.)

Am I weird? (Rhetorical question, please.)

Pete, there was an article in The New York Times recently about the "multitasking" phenomenon, especially among teen-aged students. Some multitaskers are completely comfortable watching TV, posting in forums, working on a term paper, talking to friends on cell phone, and listening to music with headphones, all at the same time. At least one scientist looking into the multitasking thing wondered if there might not be natural selection for multitasking in the future....

My favorite network is The Weather Channel. It is on... muted, bien sûr... at least 23 1/2 hours a day at my house.

What made-for-TV-movie, what silly game show, what insipid sitcom, could compare to the Hitchcockian drama of watching that thick malevolent green mass advance on the radar, embedded with blobs of yellow and crimson?

Oh the anguish... which bike should I prep for tomorrow's ride? Will I be merely sprinkled upon, or drowned like a city sewer rat? Will the roads still be wet? If so, the roadbike is out of the question, with its 23mm slicks.

And it's not just a show about precipitation... Winter dawns can bring the horror of watching way-below-freezing temps and stiff headwinds... or the simple joy of mild spring-like 40+ degF rides. My heart takes wing when, every ten minutes or so, the screen flashes "61 degrees, 20% humidity, winds: calm." Ahhhh! La vie est belle!

Summers here bring an even more captivating drama... can I really ride twenty miles this afternoon, at 105 degF and 100% humidity?

Add in the odd hurricane series, and the sudden SEVERE WEATHER bulletins, and I can't imagine watching anything else...

I would get a cracking headache. I don't even like watching TV that much. Why waste time inside when there is a beautiful day outside? To me all days are beautiful. The only problem is this dang website, I'm gonna have to get wireless internet soon...

I knew that there was a reason why I liked Cambronne - he's a man who has his priorities in order! Nothing can truly compare to the drama and unpredictibility of Nature!

Sadly, there is no Weather Channel here in Germany, but in reality we don't need one. It's either hot and rainy or it's cold and rainy. Either way, it's rainy. My fascination is more with the time the sun rises and sets. Got this really cool program for my palm III that, with the proper latitude and longitude coordinates, will tell you what time the sun and moon will rise, set, and be in transit anywhere in the world. It's a nice knowing EXACTLY how much daylight you will have today. Makes long ride planning simple and easy as opposed to wrought with anguish and hesitation.

Ranger, I have probably the same program ("Rise-Set") on my Palm IIIx, and use it a lot. Also have a separate program that shows the phase of the moon at any given moment....

I wonder if this thread proves the myth that all cyclists are weather channel addicts. Heck, I might tape the weather channel on a particularly interesting day and play it back instead of watching the boring ones.

Yes, I confess, I am, somewhat. That's part of the cool fun. But I am much worse than anyone here because I also check the hourly ozone level report every weekday afternoon between May and September.

I don't have cable, but on occasions when I've flipped through a hundred channels or so at a friend's house, I did find that The Weather Channel was generally the most consistently interesting offering.
