Preventing Scalp Tan
Each year I get a funny looking tan on my scalp due to my helmet.
SPF50 has not made a difference already this year.
Can anyone suggest how to prevent this without adding too much heat?

I use one of those lycra do-rags under my helmet.
It also comes in handy for scuba diving. I don't like to wear a hood, and sometimes there's a long surface swim after the dive.
And yes, I am SEVERELY follically challenged and a redhead!
Now if I can just get rid of those circular tans on the back of my hands...

For my multi-day tour last summer, I wore a synthetic skullcap under my helmet, the kind with a flap for the back of the neck. Not only was I more comfortable, it also provided excellent sun protection.

I thought it looks pretty cool. I shave my head and in the summer with my Giro Atmos helmet I get tribal-like looking tanlines. Makes you look hard-core.

I shave my head due to an inverted mohawk. Okay...I'm balding. Or bald is more like it.
If the tan lines appear I will throw a handkerchief under my helmet as a doo rag. Been practicing on my 2 year old son. Too bad it usually ends up looking like a pirate.
