I want the cruiser with the rust fenders!

Went to Kmart today, cause I needed a few things. Walking up, I went by the bikes whic are so nicely kept outdoors. Noticed in the line of road and mountain bikes a single cruiser with a fender. As I got closer I noticed that the fender had more rust than chrome on it. I just shook my head. Now we all know that Kmart bikes are only good as casual riders, but c'mon, RUST! Who would buy that? Just goes to show their commitment to quality. Good thing I only needed a laundry basket.

You should have taken it up to the counter and then "o shyt....I didnt notice that rust" then threw it down and walked out the door.

Seriously though, K-mart, W*lmart (it's a swear-word to me) etc are not the places to buy bikes or bike parts. It's best to just pay the $ and go to a proper bike shop. I don't think rust would get through too many actual bike mechanics.

The horror I see in this is that,

the rusted bike is going to be someones intro into the world of bicycling.

And they are going to accept a brand new rusted xmart bike as the norm, buy it ride it twice, have it break, throw it in the back of the garage

and ask you "WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU PAY $3000 FOR A BIKE? THAT'S STUPID.
YOU KNOW ITS JUST GOING TO BREAK AFTER YOU RIDE IT TWICE!"

It's like selling a bike with loose hubs that make the wheels wobble. It is not right. It is not acceptable. Don't get me started.

hey Soberone, did you know that "Rustoleum", the paint that prevents rust, has a paint that is supposed to look like rust? Maybe someone painted that fender with it !

Jean, lets hope other companies don't follow suit:

Tires that look flat,
Cables that look frayed,
Computers that always read 8 MPH,
Seats that look ripped,
Weels that look warped,

hehe this could be its own thread!

Rustoleoum better hope the "rusted" look dosen't catch on,
they might put themselves out of busness.

That reminds me of Harley motorcycles during the time that AMF (they make bowling balls) was in charge. These bikes leaked oil right on the showroom floor.

Rust and leaking oil should make for some tough sales though, eh?
