Bad habits

What's your worst bad habit or problem while cycling?
Personally, I get bored on long, flat, straight rides. I start daydreaming and go slower and slower til I almost doze off. How lame is that?

UmneyDurak 05-07-06 01:21 PM

Not eatting or drinking enough. Also when I get bored (doesn't happen often) I start doing wiered stuff like weaving (on solo rides).

chromedome 05-07-06 01:42 PM

Thats not weird! I do algebra word problems when I'm bored on the bike. Thats weird!

my worst habbit is probably using my rear brake too much

Siu Blue Wind 05-07-06 05:19 PM

OOOooo me too. Hence, the accident I had.

Chromedome, I have that problem too. I also fill my panniers with big rocks I find but that is OK, they are for my garden.

Big Tommy C 05-07-06 06:10 PM

....I've been known to weave back and forth too.

My bad habit is stopping. On a long ride, when I start to get bored or tired, I tend to come up with reasons to stop ... to take photos, to adjust something, to stretch .... when I really should just stay on the bicycle and keep pedalling.

I'm working on it!

Metieval 05-07-06 06:22 PM

Not stretching before rides.....

Katrogen 05-07-06 06:49 PM

Riding in jeans... :)

FlatTop 05-07-06 06:57 PM

Coasting excessively.
Curb hugging.
Weaving.
Glancing furtively into backyards for glimpses of interesting old cars and bicycles.

here and there 05-07-06 07:11 PM

Getting my rear-end off the saddle when going over bumps and whatnot.

Not drinking water often enough, then drinking too much and feeling uncomfortable.

Michel Gagnon 05-07-06 08:05 PM

I'd say riding the first 30 km without stopping at all. I am much more rested at the end of the day if I stop every hour, even at the beginning of the day.

Nachoman 05-07-06 09:11 PM

Sometimes I lose focus and pedal too slowly. I start daydreaming and don't notice how slow I'm going until a jogger or skater yell "on your left".

Urban Shooter 05-07-06 09:45 PM

When I get bored or tired on a ride I tend to drift to the right and even though it is rare, I have gone off the path or smacked a curb or two. But it tends to get me focused real quick!

forgetting to drink and not drinking enough... also stopping, especially early in the season. It gets better... but sometimes I can't NOT stop and look at a family of little baby ducks. Maybe being a suck for cute animals is a bad habit.

DigitalQuirk 05-08-06 05:32 AM

Taking my hands off the handlebars and riding hands-free.

Doing wheelies and catwalks with my mountain bike.

I'm probably too old to be doing stuff like that.

My bad habit is to NOT stop when I see something neat, to look or to take pictures. I'm buying a new camera specifically to have one with me on the bike, and I'll work on stopping whenever there's something cool to look at.

bad habits...riding like a banshee, drafting trucks and busses, wrong way sidewalk riding, aggressive interactions with drivers, taking the lane 'just to show em' I'm wise to their car driving tricks....i find this is by far the most annoying habit i exhibit, if not the most dubious.

56/12 and 22/28 05-08-06 07:16 AM

I drink too much water.

jeff-o 05-08-06 07:39 AM

Pushing myself too hard, then either bonking or getting tired too fast.

chipcom 05-08-06 08:02 AM

Yelling "F_CK YOU, MORON!!!" to drivers who buzz me or holler something at me about getting off the road.

linus 05-08-06 08:42 AM

I tend to slowdown or even stop when I see girls on rollerblades.:D
