Just for fun......

I think the distance that I've ridden no-hands could be measured in inches.

No hands: I'm not sure anymore, as a kid I could go for close to mile that way I think, lately more like 200 yards.
Butt out of the saddle: Probably about a mile. I was riding with some friends who were a lot slower, and for some reason it made it more fun to ride standing up. I did not notice I was doing it for a good long while either.

I've gone miles no-hands. Some of the bike-paths here are boring, so I play a game of seeing how far I can ride on the yellow line no-handed. Some over-the-hill old guy passed me up one time and muttered something about how dangerous it was and "stupid"... HAH! Told him I could ride straighter no-handed than he could with his hands on the bars... and we started doing an accelerating interval to the end of the path..., heh, heh.. .I was hoping he'd tried to push me off or somethin'... bastard!

My record without hands is 6 blocks, a friend of mine and I used to play chicken to see who would give in first. I usually won at the fourth block because of my willingness to run the stop sign. Ahh to be young and convinced that you can't be killed.
I had a training ride in Eugene that included a pretty steep hill, probably +11%, that was about a mile long. I regularly tried to sprint the whole thing, out of the seat and balls to the wall.

You better learn to ride no handed in case your handle bars get stolen...

Been years since I have ridden a bike (actually more like 9) I used to make the whole commute to work (3 miles in and 3 miles back) with no hands minus when I had to stop for traffic or make a very technical turn.
Im still out trying bikes to choose wich one I want to buy and the Gary Fisher Kaitai I was able to ride handless all around the parking lot of the LBS with no trouble even after being off a bike for 9 years. The Rockhopper I could do no hands but not with the incredible and seamless balance of the kaitai.
I just like to relax and go handless somtimes, also if you have a big lean on your bike it may help you ease up the back and get some blood flowing.
You should see us in the Marines some of us even RUN with no hands... just watch them run with there arms flailing around like they are paralized... it saves energy but to me the loss in balance isnt worth it.

I refuse to ride with no-hands, thats too unsafe to me. Friends will do that for a mile or so when riding down a straight empty road. I'm able to stand out of the saddle for miles. Thanks to spin class.

When I was a kid I could ride for hours without my hands. Then drugs and my balance still has not recovered even after quitting 11+ years ago.
I have ridden 12 miles out of the saddle. It was 5 months ago early in the morning. I was having severe stomach issues without access to a restroom or port-a-poti. To prevent an accident I rode out of the saddle. This eventually calmed my stomach right before I arrived at work.

In college (MTB) I could ride no-hands indefinitely... Barring stops or very tight turns. But normal bike path turns were no problem. Something about the geometry of my current bike (Cypress hybrid) seems to prevent it, riding no-hands just isn't stable... can't even coast no-hands.
My project bike (incomplete yet) has a more touring-style geometry and I'm going to see if that makes it possible again.

Like Eggplant, I used to ride miles no hands... when I toured, this was the best way to ease the stress on the hands from hours of riding. Never quite learned how to pee from the bike though... so eventually had to stop.
One thing I always thought would be a blast was to make a PB&J on the bike while riding no hands down this park boulevard in my area... It is a slight downhill and used to have few lights... that has changed over time. I just thought it would be cool to make a video of me doing this... all casual like.
