Cycling Shoe Size Question.
I live in America, so naturally, we don't do metric. I wear a size 12 shoe & I'm thinking about buying a new pair. I believe the pair that I have now is 46 or 46.5. So after some research I see that 46 size shoes are normally for people with a size 13 foot. But I've also read that you want to get a shoe size that's bigger than you're actual foot. Can anyone assist me in letting me know what size shoe I should really be looking for? Thanks!

I would really want to try them on...
I think you want them to be a little larger than a normal shoe so that your toes don't smash when you stand up on the pedals.
I'm no expert though.

The fit of cycle shoes is unique AND fit is different from brand to brand. With street shoes I wear 35's or 36's but in cycling shoes I wear 37's. I like Shimano shoes but I don't like Pearl Izumi's and Specialized shoes are OK but not perfect. Thats for my feet anyway. Different feet, different results.
So my advise is your going to have to try them on. Online ordering of shoes is ONLY for replacements of known shoes.
Regards, Anthony

I have bought Shimano shoes online, so it can be done. I also wear size 12 American, but the Shimano cycling shoes I have always bought are size 47 European, which corresponds to size 12.5 American.
The size 47 is what fits me perfectly in Shimano shoes.
I'll go to cycling stores around you and try size 47 Shimano shoes. I bet they'll fit.

Yep. Do not ever buy cycling shoes online without having test fit them. I do not recommend testing them at a store and buying them online - that's just wrong.

I really like this pair of Specialized shoes, but I can't try them on because there isn't a store for that particular shoe around. I found a pair that are 46 on eBay. Do you think that would be a good size for a 12 inch foot?

If you are considering a Specialized shoe you really need to try them on first. It has been my experience that people either love or hate their "body geometry" fit. There seems to be no middle ground.

I suppose you're right. I would love to try on the shoes first, but unfortunately, it's not always possible. You don't always have the option to look before you leap. But I will definitely try to find a Specialized dealer somewhere near to my place & try on a pair. Thanks for the advice.

I wear size 11 street shoes but my SIDI road and mountain shoes are 46. I wear a wool sock when fitting bike shoes.

Agreed with all the above. Shimano shoes run small. I take a size bigger in both the shoes and the sandals than I do in regular shoes.
