Hehehe...

The salty taste isn't that obvious when mixed with lemonade. And it's only about 0.5% salt anyway. Salt water, per definition, requires 3% salt.

Well ya know... the ultimate energy drink would be sweat with some sugar in it to replace exactly the amounts you've burned off...

If I'm not mistaken, sweat contains urea, and I'm not so sure I need to replace that. Not in the same form, anyway.

I have a bad habit of getting dehydrated when I go for long rides because I don't plan to ride as long as I do or I just don't force myself to drink on the trail. Trust me, you don't want to get dehydrated. When I do I get really bad headaches and lose my energy. It can sometimes take a full day out of me just recovering. Don't worry about drinking too much; worry about not drinking enough!

(electrolytes, too!)

Don't cut down on your water intake, it's a good thing and your body needs it, instead carry around a Camelbak, there's nothing wrong with that.

Simply change your route so you can refill. I ride the tow path and have 3 points where i can fill up and drink 1 bottle per 10 miles or so. Mine are 20 oz bottles. I carry 2 in cages 1 or 2 more in packs depending on how far i plan on riding or if i plan on riding past my preious known area. If your drinking that much water you need that much water.

I'm with you on this one. If there is any problem with these bottles, it is that they wear out rather quickly.

If the bacteria deal really bothers anyone, just slosh a teaspoon of bleach with the water next time you wash it. Oh yeah, and dump it out before you drink it!

If anyone is interested, here's what the US Army recommends for water intake:
