Wrong Way Driver Apologizes!

So I'm on my usual neighborhood route tonight and I had just made a right hand turn into a two lane road separated by a tree lined concrete median. There's usually very little traffic in this section which runs for about 3/4 of a mile before it dead ends and that's why I like it so much. Plus it's fairly new blacktop and is smooth as silk.

Anyway, up ahead about 200 feet I see a cars brake lights and and he's in reverse going about 20 MPH coming towards me. Even though there are cars parked to the right I have plenty of room to move over and let him pass which I do without incident. When he passes I resume my position in the middle of the road when I hear a light tap on the horn and this same guy is now trying to pass me from behind. So I yield the right of way and he goes by.

Up ahead I make a u-turn at the end of the road and take a rest stop where the median splits so I can have something to drink. This young couple had just parked their car and were walking in front of me when the guy says, "Hey, I'm really sorry about that back there but I always get lost when I'm in this neighborhood". I said, "Oh, that was you backing up a few minutes ago"? He said, "Yeah, I can never find the house I'm looking for. They all look the same, anyway I apologize". Well he sort of disarmed me with the apology so I just said, "Not a problem", and we went our separate ways.

Just thought I'd tell the story since it's probably not often that a driver will apologize to a cyclist, at least in my limited experience.

Nice. I hate the people that lay on the horn. But, at least in this case he seems to have meant no harm.

Thanks for sharing!
