i recently bought a used bike off of craigslist, and it came with an older model specialized cycle computer. i'm about to take a bike trip, and think it will come in handy to know how far and fast i'm riding, and this will save me the trouble and money of buying a new one. the thing is that i want to make sure its set to the right wheel size, and that i know how to make it do what it does.

in the past i've found manuals online for cycle computers via google, but the problem with this one is that nowhere on it is there an actual model name! it says "Specialized" in two places (in different colors), and has a specialized logo on the display, but no actual name for the computer itself. there is a serial number on the back, but that's not doing me much good.

and that is where i hope you folks can help me out. here is a description in as much detail as i can muster from just looking at it.

as i said it is an older Specialized brand computer, that is wired. it is smaller than the newer ones, black with a single grey button on the bottom, and a gray frame with a red "Specialized" at the top, and a grey one if you are looking at the unit from in front of the bike. (if knowing the colors even helps)

the bike i got it with is a 97 or 98, so the computer is likely from around then, if not slightly newer.

one click of the button will bring up the time.
the next will bring up ATM.
the next DST.
the next ODO.

the screen layout is similar to other cycle computers so i won't bore you folks with those details.

if you have any idea about what model this compter is, or know where i can find a copy of the manual, or even tips on making it work, or digging deeper into this, it is very appreciated.

Any holes or recessed buttons on the back?

on the back there is two sensors (or whatever the proper word for the bits that complete the connections), a battery door, proudly proclaiming that the unit was made in Hong Kong, and above that towards the top right, a tiny button labeled AC to the right of the serial number.

Push the AC button (or push-&-hold it a while if necessary) and begin learning by trial & error If that's the only button on the whole computer, then it's probably going to scroll digits, and you push the button again when the digit that's scrolling says what you want it to say.

If you have a road bike, then if you set the calibration number to about 209-210 or 2090 to 2100, you're close enough for governement work Make sure you pick the units of measurement you prefer, too (kph or mph).

Bigger picture: Cateye Velo2's are nice basic computers that come with instructions, if it proves to be more trouble than $19 worth

Post a picture! Try running a Search for Axiom cyclo computers, sounds a lot like the ones Performance sells. I found the manual for my Axiom 8.0 on line. It is wired with a big gray and small red button.
