spring is coming!

well after about 4 weeks of temperatures never above freezing in January/February and lots of snow on the ground (good for skiing!) we've had warmer weather the last week-and-a-half here in Munich.

today's high will be a blazing 16C (61F)!

i went for my first real bike tour yesterday! although the MTB trails in the mountains are still under snow or at least totally muddy from the melting snow so it was just a boring road tour (kidding of course). with a riding buddy, rode down south of Munich and by one lake (Starnbergersee) and then to and around another of the scenic lakes (Ammersee) and back for a total of 114km! the view of the snow-covered mountains and then later the orange sky from the setting sun was just awesome! and got in over 4 hours of base miles too! we rode some short sections of a few trails, but there was a little ice and often it felt like riding with 2 flat tires because it was so wet and boggy from the snowmelt, but a great tour!

Spring is coming and i am ready to ride! and i hope i'm ready: with commuting i got in 310km last week, not bad for early march!

anyone else out there excited about spring? (or are you still under snow?)

Here in Queensland, we're excited about the bit that comes just before spring.

BTW, having read about your ride, I want to go there... NOW!

No snow, or ice for a week now.

But "mad March" is here with a vengence! Rode out yesterday, started off riding into a ferocious westerly gale, 30 miles + gale gusting up to 40.

Almost came to a standstill it was blowing so hard, funneling down the valley from the west.
It took me an hour to cycle 6 miles into the wind, barely a decent walking speed

Decided to change direction and head out of the valley, North, but soon decided to give up this idea when cross winds were threatning to blow me into the path of passing vehicles.

Turned back East, and woooosh! that wind blew me along at 30+ with hardly a crank of the pedals.

This morning there are "monsoon" like rains, and I want to ride!!!!
its my day off.
"Mad March" indeed.

We know spring is coming, the question is, "will the weather get any better?". Saturday here was +6 C and rainy in the afternoon, dropped to -15 C overnight! It looks like we're only allowed one day above freezing every 2 weeks! Winter started early (mid November) and just hasn't let up at all! I love winter, but enough is enough!!!

Yeah, sure spring is coming- it's been bitterly cold for weeks now. And while we also had little snow in Feb, which is very unusual, it was frigid temps, and now, since march began, we've been snowed in! One storm after another, then rain, ice, you name it. The normal temp for this time of year is about 32f, and it's been at least 6-10 degrees below that. Today it's -14C,with gusting winds.

The forecast says it'll be cold this week but by the weekend, it'll warm up to about normal, but guess what- rain.

Right now (March 10) we are experiencing a blizzard. Spring may come in July . What encourages me is that I understand that there are just two seasons in Siberia: Winter and August 3rd.

I can hardly wait for clear roads and any temp above 0C (32F).

I've been spoiled. I went to Clearwater FL. for a wedding last week and it was much warmer than here. I ran on Friday and it felt great to work out in the outdoors again. Then on Monday morning when we were getting ready to leave a group of cyclists went by along the beach road (Forget the name) on the gulf side and I was jealous that I had to come back and ride in the basement. If any of your were in that group I was the one pushing the stroller with my wife by my side. Of course you could also see the saliva dripping on the ground. LOL

How can it change so fast:confused: 54 degrees and sunny forecasted for tomorrow while I work. 60 degrees and rainy forcasted for Wed on my next day off. I must of made the weather gods mad this year

Ya I was in Evansville all of last week and the weather was not bad, but Saturday was awsome. Still did not have my bike with me. The cold front moved in Saturday night when I was helping my father in law outside. It went from 55 to 30 in about an hour.

Go Boilers!!!!!!!!!

Sheesh! Spring? Try -18 C with blowing snow. I haven't seen pavement for 7 weeks. A few days ago I actually rode around in my rec room for a few minutes just to remind myself what riding feels like. But hey, in three weeks I'm off to Moab for 5 glorious days of riding, sun and camping! I can't wait!

Moab,sounds good to me.

The other day I was watching KTLA, and they were showing the forecast for the next week: Sunday, sunny and 72! Monday, partly cloudy, and 72. Tuesday, sunny and 70... by the time they got to wednesday I was "aaah shaddap!"

well, sorry to hear about you guys who are still experieincing winter and/or under snow...

this week is absolutely incredible: yesterday i actually wore shorts for a half-hour stroll outdoors after work (ok, i also had on a fleece jacket) and my walk to the fitness center...

and today on the commute to work i almost died from overheating as i had thought i had "dressed light" in a long-sleeve jersey and tights! i arrived thoroughly drenched in sweat! i think i will ride home in shorts!

yesterday and today: partly cloudy and 17C (63F), although the following 4 days including the weekend will be back down to high of 6C (43F)... but no return of winter or the snow i think.

but in the last few days all the streets have been cleared of the left-over snowback trash... and all the gravel that they use on the snow. wow does everything look so nice! and i can ride so much faster without the gravel and snow everywhere!

Oh ya I just saw the weather and it looks like the 50's this weekend. Tuesday is showing a high of 62 F. I hope this is not just some cruel joke. Buffalo has a tendency to tease you with some warmth and then throw a storm our way.

It's raining here today and while that continues, I'm happy.
