MotionBased.com?

xpost from Mtn biking:

Hey all,

Just stumbled upon MotionBased.com. Looks like a sweet ste. Was wondering if anyone has used Motionbased.com or a site like it? I got a GPS for Christmas, and this seems like an awesome way to use it.

Thanks all,
Matt

It works fine though some of their graphs seem less that useful to me. You can use the site for free but it only keeps you last 10 rides. If you want to save all your rides, you have to pay a monthly fee.

Personally, I prefer to use my Polar software with the HRM for heart rate, speed, distance, altitude, and cadence analysis. I can use Mapsource or TopoUSA to view track data from the GPS. Sadly, motionbased does not combine Polar HRM data with GPS files. They are concentrating on the current Edge 305 fad.

I have a Garmin eTrex Legend C, and I was looking to make those elevation maps. Where along the y-axis has the elevation, then the x-axis has the miles, and it makes a nice line graph. I have MapSource CitySelect, but am pretty sure it doesn't have that feature. Does TopoUSA?

TopoUSA will take your track and calculate the elevation profile based on it's terrain map. The TopoUSA data will also calculate the total climing and descending elevation, average grade, and climbing and descending distances. Note that TopoUSA does not use the elevation data recorded in your track file. It uses the map data underneath your track. Generally this is going to be more accurate than the elevation data recorded by your GPS.

The Mapsource program supplied with the Garmin GPS units will show you an elevation profile of a track based on the elevation data recorded by the GPS but will not calculate and display and data on that elevation profile.
