Wall of Rememberance comments.

I just read a message in the Wall of Rememberance thread that destroyed the mood of the thread. I apologize if I am out of line, but I think anything other than names, dates and possibly pictures belongs elsewhere.

I personally don't know if the wall of rememberance is a productive idea, but I would not post messages of support or objection or general comments within the thread itself. It doesn't add to the nature of the thread to potentially turn it into a debate by posting something other than the names as was intended, or to even express the horror at the length of the list.

It would be like spray painiting a message "When will the death stop?" on the Vietnam memorial... even if it is a worthy message, it still detracts from the purpose and design of the memorial. That memorial is effective because it lets the names tell the story... It lets each person interpret the names in their own way.

For comments on the wall, please use this thread or start your own. Don't deface the wall by spray painting your comments on it.

Moderators/Joe...

An idea... Is there any way to easily disable avatars and signatures in a specific thread? I think it would increase the impact of the Wall of Rememberance thread to remove avatars and signatures. It would be the online equivalent of silence in a solemn place... I find them distracting from he impact of the mood of the posts in that thread. While I appreciate bouncing smiley faces and humorous signatures, to me, they don't belong in that thread.

As an alternative, how about a single message from a pseudo user name that members could PM information to so they are included... This could help to ensure the sanctity of the thread, and an order could also be imposed (chronological or alphabetical or lonitudinal).

Regardless f these potentials, I think everyone who posts in that thread should consider turnng off your signature for those posts (it is an option at the bottom of a reply page).

There are more comments in this thread. https://www.bikeforums.net/general-cycling-discussion/234013-wall-rememberence-good-idea.html

I'm not sure it's possible to turn off signatures in just one thread.

I agree with not putting comments in the wall of rememberance thread. I really doubt whether the Wall is a good idea, but to respect the purpose of the thread, I started the other thread to discuss the idea without polluting the thread.
