Ok so when taking long rides 75 mi+ course nature calls and usually i'll find a bush and yeh recently its been nagging me where professionals do their business b/c its not like they have rest stops during the tour de france and other races do they just piss their chamois? or what?

I've ridden long rides where I've not needed to pump ship; I did an 111 mile ride on my MTB back in the summer; the total time out of the house was 9¾ hrs and although I drank 7 x 20fl.oz. bottles of fluid, I didn't need to pee. It was a hot day, and I must have sweated it all out. As for dumping; I think that careful eating for the previous 24-hrs ensures that one isn't "taken-short", so to speak…

Men can go down the leg of their shorts, while still riding. They'll often lean on the cyclist next to them for some extra balance.

For women it is a bit more complicated but evidently still do-able. I once had a link to a website describing how it is done, but I seem to have lost that link.

I've only ever done one long road race - 107 miles - and I did it non-stop. Enroute, I drank about 100 ounces of fluid.

I've seen pictures and video of various pro races, including the TdF that shows the riders all lined up along the side of the road taking a leak. Not everyone wants to pee down their leg and into their shoe...

Read some of the live coverage of the big races (say at www.cyclingnews.com). Notice that once the break 'sticks', the gap goes up by 3 minutes in about 5 km. There's your piss break.

They also go while moving, although my understanding is it's 'over the top' not down the leg. I've tried a couple of times: the first time I had stage fright (even though I was by myself) and couldn't go. The second time I only managed to wet my shoe a little.

I am not shy about peeing, but I need a little camaflouge, at least. It's different for women. I can pee anywhere, but not with a bunch of people in full view. Sometimes its harder being a woman.

I believe the pissing while riding technique was invented by noted hermit and 1950's TDF champion Charley Gaul. The other riders didn't like Gaul much, so when he stopped to pee, instead of stopping the peleton in a gentlemanly manner and waiting for him to wiggle his weewee, as had been done in more gentlemanly times, the other riders sped past. By way of retaliation, or perhaps as a simply defensive manuever, Gaul invented the "pee while riding technique". How defensive (or offensive) exactly I cannot say.

There is also a famous story about Greg Lemond and a bout of runs... no one in the peleton wanted to be behind Greg that day.

Interesting thread. Now I don't race myself but now that someone mentioned the thread topic I am interested. I've seen before the old army pants (I wish I knew what they're called to find pics of them) with some bladder pack inside attached to the guys genitals for peeing into it. Now I'm sure with a little modification it can apply for the girls as well tho I wonder if it'll be a little wet around the sides.

Another thought is why not wear a pair of Depends adult diapers? I mean yah the commercials of it scare me but when you think about it, hey it could hold 1-2 pitstops while moving so you don't lose much speed while wizzing.

One other thought is close to the army one but run a tube into the pants and into the genitals and because you're higher on the bike have gravity run the fluid out of the pants down the side of the leg or mount a quick connect something to the bike and make the tube curl away from the gears or the bike and connect the tube on the body to the bike tube before riding so when you're riding the pee leaves body and just drops out and not on the bike. (holy run on sentance batman) When you get off your bike later just quick disconnect the tube on the body to the one on the bike.

Anyways, just a thought.

I used to fly gliders (sailplanes) when I lived in the UK, and some gliders were fitted with a P-tube; easy to use if you were male, but somewhat more problematic if you were female, although I think there are special devices available for women undertaking long flights.

One of the chaps who flew at my club (Oxford Gliding Club) was a veterinarian, and used take a supply of extra-long latex gloves when he flew his glider on a long flight, and whenever he felt the need, would relieve himself into the glove, twist the end, and eject the glove through the direct-vision panel in the canopy shouting "bombs away!". I've heard stories of people using condoms in a similar fashion.

I have a video of one of the stage races from this year at home. It shows a rider signaling his support car and stopping. As the mechanics changed out the wheel--apparently a flat?--the rider was off the bike in a flash amd pulling up his jersey while pulling down his bib. The helicopter was too far to see detail, but you knew exactly what he was doing, the shot being taken from a 3/4 frontal profile.
