Problems with Garmin Edge 305

Hi all,

Am I alone in experiencing problems with the Garmin bicycle computer?.

In my case the 'Garmin Edge 305' that is exactly 7 weeks old has given up.

At first I experienced some charging problems where it did not hold charge for the stated time. I let it run totally flat and charged it until the screen indicator stated it was fully charged.

It then however stayed charged for around only 3 hours of riding.

Then yesterday, it would not charge at all and did not recognise that I had it on charge - no screen notation staing charging in process

I have tried to turn it on but it is dead.

Logging onto the 'Garmin' site I am told that my email I sent - asking what to do - will not be answered for up to 7 days. Mmmmm.

As I have given my Polar unit away, I find myself training without data recording or assistance.

Just wondered if this is a ' my problem' or have others experienced this with the Garmin Edge 305?

How about the support from the company? Anyone experienced problems?

Thanks

Bernie

I have heard nothing but great things about Garmins customer service. Give them a call and from everything I have heard they will make it right. My father has a Garmin Rino that we thought he had broken by dropping it and it sounded bad. He called customer service and they talked him through (and he is not electronic oriented) checking everything out and got it working, by determining he had turned on the scramble somehow. I heard another story from a guy that had a Garmin go bad and was calling to see what he could do about it. They said they would have a new product on the way to him. He said that is great but the unit is over a year old. There was response was that didn't matter Garmin products are suppose to work and his wasn't so there would be a new one sent to him.

I hope you have the same luck.

What Cali said. I had a Garmin GPS get smashed by Airport Security, sent it in to Garmin and the turnaround time was pretty short.

My only two problems with my Edge is getting drinks/grime in the start/lap buttons and having to pop them off and clean them so they work properly again and then my bluetooth sunglasses caused interference with the GPS signal.

Thanks for the prompt replies.

I have returned it to the company. Will see where we go from there.

I was a little worried when I received the information that it was going to be up to 7 days to receive a response to my email.

The unit is registered for warranty and is on the way back. Managed to get a Polar on loan from the bike shop.

Will keep you posted. Thanks again.

Ooops did receive a PM asking what bike this was on..

I have a Scott CR1 with Dura Ace groupset, Kysrium ES wheels. The only mod. is a carbon 'Modelo' seat post. The seat post appears to work in reducing vibration on rough surfaced roads.

And here's the car.....please no comments about burning fossil fuels...

There are additional photos on www.cadel.com.au Just click in the PIX on the bar. Think they were in the January report.
