How Many Bikes For A Event ?

How many bikes do you get ready for an event?

I guess for me it's two. And then I took the wrong bike.
Getting ready for the Harmonie Hundred I rode today I checked the forecast Thursday; Partly cloudy. So I get my road bike ready.
Friday I check the weather; RAIN!!. So then I stay up late getting my hybrid ready. Taking off the front and rear racks, changing the knobbies to a road tires and putting on Zefal plastic fenders. Then I check the weather Saturday; Cloudy! No mention of rain. I grabbed the roadbike this morning and drove to Indiana. Didn't look too bad this morning and I went with a Pearl Izumi cycling jacket instead of a rain coat. Rained buckets and I got soaked. Lightning shortened our clubs ride from a 50 to a 40. Still had fun

For road there are only two choices: Fixed or geared. Depends on what pace the ride will be. I do bring a huge gear bag with every kind of clothing in it. Repair stand, pump, tools, and break down kit because of my occupation

Hillyman, you don't ride your road bike in the rain? How come? I can relate to the clothing situation though. I have learned to just bring all of my cycling clothes to my races.

I don't mind rain as long as it's not cold. The lightning is what my club had trouble with. I brought my cycling rain jacket but left it in the car thinking my windbreaker would be enough. That thing soaked up water like a sponge. The rest stop that we were at told us it was going to get worse and it did. It was coming down like a carwash. This was just a charity ride so there wasn't any glory to gain dodging lightning bolts
