3. If all else fails there is STILL hope. The good news is you will be able to ride a bicycle for the rest of your life. You'll just have to sell and road and mountain bike and get a RECUMBENT! Seriously. It may be time to switch rides since what you have is very expensive to fix using surgery. Furthermore, there is not guaranty this procedure will work. There is no cure for what you have and taking powerful drugs to ride a bicycle is NOT the answer..

Right. It IS difficult to diagnose wrist pain via an Internet forum. (Is there an irony emoji?)
CMC pain is real, and steroid shots can have a pretty long-lasting effect; my 1st lasted a couple of years, though succeeding shots gave less and less relief. Surgery has an even longer lasting effect. Personally, I found the cost of the surgery much less painful than the actual wrist pain, though I called it 'thumb' pain, but I had good insurance when my right thumb was operated on. My thumb isn't as strong as it was pre-arthritis, but it's stronger than it was just before the surgery.
This is a zombie thread, but it may help someone with a problematic CMC joint get to a qualified physician or surgeon to find out what's going on in their hand(s).
BTW, a 'bent wouldn't have done anything to reduce my thumb pain. The pain was from osteoarthritis, a progressive condition.
