Where have all the deals gone? Ontario
I went to a few bike shops around here, in the kitchener/waterloo/cambridge area, I was was looking at buying a complete sora or 105 group for a bike I am building, or just saying screw it and looking at the cost of a bike with these groups already on it.
Turns out the shops I went to quote around $450 dollars for the entire sora group, around $850 for a 105 group. And a bike with sora comps was like 800 and a bike with "some" 105 were like $1200+.
What happened? Or am I just confused over the american pricings? I would have figured I could get a complete sora built bike for like 500 dollars and a 105 for 900ish?
Now unless bikes go on a major sale, what are my best options here in canada?
Thanks for bearing with the read guys, and opinions are good.

The least expensive name brand bikes with Sora I see in the US are $600 to $650. Trek 1000 and Giant OCR 3 or 4 come to mind. Of course, I am not sure of the current exchange rate between US and Canadian dollars.

Going to bike shops- unless they can get the previous years stock- is not always the best place to buy bikes. I am lucky in that I have a good relationship with my LBS and I get a respectable Discount. Look around on the net and see what prices are available on Bikes there.

So I go on-line, much better deals.
Check pro bike kit. A place in the UK. Free shipping to Canada, and depending on how customs are, no duty.

How about a 105 group for 561$ CDN (they have a link to change to cdn dollars)
I've bought tons of stuff from them, including a chorus groupset. When it arrived I only had to pay a 5$ handling fee from can post. No tax, no duty. very nice.
Search the road forums of you need some more feedback.
good luck!

Give George VETTOR CYCLE (in Guelph) a call. He's been building bikes for 60 years as of this year and can likely come up with something you can afford.

Your best options in Canada is mail order by way of Probikekit (still free shipping AND best prices on the net). Most to all of the prices you can get in Canada through mail order are massive rip offs.
Either that or you can order from Nashbar/Preformance.
